I've noticed that sometimes all or most of my skills decrease by one level (for example, I had dagger "mastered" but now it is "superb") at seemingly random times, is this a penalty for something that I'm doing or do skills deteriorate over time? Also, is there a way to deny certain beneficial spells from being cast on you such as regeneration? Sorry if these have been answered before. |

The skill decrease is from wearing armor that is to suitable to your class. See help armor2 to determine which armor type your class can wear. And as far as I know the only way to stop a beneficial spell from being cast on you is through the means by which you could stop any spell from being cast on you: bashing/tripping to stop concentration, deafness to interfere with casting, blindness/dirt kick to stop people from targeting you, ect. |

Look at the armor you are wearing. Depending on your proffession, you can only wear certain armor. Type help armor2 in game to see what armor you can wear. If your wearing armor that i too heavy, it will decrease your skills. As for denying certain spells, you need to get your armor enchanted for magical resitance if you want that, though why you woud want to sto benificial spells from helping you I have no clue?? |

Oh, it looks like the skill penalty was from wearing jewelery that was too big for me, thanks. I was wondering if it was possible to deny beneficial spells for RP purposes, such as if someone wanted to RP a character that had permanently lost/gimped a limb for whatever reason. |

While 'jewelry' to you might mean a pair of adamantite earrings, it usually refers to items that are similar to 'trinkets' like wrist/neck/finger/body slots. Anyone can wear heavy armor jewelry, so that's not where the decrease to your skills came from, unless you meant and were referring to a different armor slot than the four above. You can't deny someone else healing you unless you have MR on your gear. |

I see, the "jewelery" that I was wearing was actually earrings. Thanks for clearing that up. Thought there would be a separate head slot for stuff like that. |

And it isn't the size of the item, it's the material its made from. |

Size matters. But not how you'd think. |

help armor2 is your friend What defines the type of armor? What differentiates heavy from light? This is dependent on the type of material from which the item is composed. * Heavy Armor -- adamantite, diamond, gemstone, iron, obsidian, platinum, steel, stone, tanso steel, cold iron * Light Armor -- amber, brass, bronze, china, clay, copper, crystal, flesh, food, glass, gold, ice, ivory, leather, meat, mithril, pearl, plant, scale, silver, supernatural, wood * Clothing -- cloth, energy, feather, flame, fur, ink, paper, parchment, rubber, silk, suede, vellum, water Looking at an item displays both its size and material. If the material that an item is made from does not make sense, please log the item name using the TYPO command and it will be looked at. Keep in mind that items worn on fingers, neck, wrists, waists, and hooves, and those in the symbol slot, do not count as armor when counting penalties. |

The helpfile is wrong. Waist counts. And size does not (for the slots in question when dealing with nonarmor). Neither does about body. |
