Post subject:  Where is everyone?

Hello, I'm an ignorant newbie.

I've figured out a great deal of what I needed to get started, I'm liking the combat system here so far. I went searching for other characters to get a feel for the RP style of the game, and didn't have much luck.

I realize it might be IC information to ask where everyone might be hiding, but when you can't find people to ask that (or they run by so quickly you don't have a chance) it's difficult.

I started in Taslamar, as it seemed the most likely to be populated. Was this a bad choice? I tried the Inn, as it seemed the most logical place, but it was only populated with NPC's. My next course of action was just standing about the main intersection, that didn't work out so well either.

Any suggestions?

Nerina's inn in the kingdom of Zhenshi is usually pretty busy.

You can make use of the who command and the tell command in game. The who command will give you a list of all other players online (unless they're hiding, invis, etc), with their titles. If you are a light aura, you can look for someone with a light-aura-sounding title, and then tell xxx Hi, I'm a young citizen of Taslamar, trying to begin my training to become a (insert class here). I heard you are (insert person's title here), and was wondering if you'd be free to help me.

And atm, there aren't a lot of people logged on. The Nerina inn is usually the most populated, but with only a handful of people logged on, it'd be hard to find people even there.

This fruit, for example, would probably be a safe bet.

Not to sound like a broken record, but yeah, the best luck would be in Nerina's Inn really. Exile is usually pretty dead these days.

Another helpful thing to look for in a title might be signs of leadership. You started in Taslamar and have been around Exile, so for example you might look for someone with Peacekeeper in their title. Or things like 'Justicar', 'Captain', 'Commander', 'Sergent', 'Regent', or other signs of rank or royalty, as they are usually in command of their local guard and more often then not in the know about the hot spots.

I remember back in the day when I first stared playing, when Exile would be hopping. Like fifteen to twenty people in the center square having a good old time, e few theifs stealing, usually a duel or two goin on....Ahh the good ol' days. Anyways, yeah Nerina is the hot spot, or sometimes Teron. Exile has its moments, but are few and far between as of late.

30 players, "over 30,000 unique rooms," you do the math.

I'd use the tell command to scout out interesting sounding people rather than trying to loiter in the slaughter houses that are inns.

One never can tell going into a new game if what the help files say is the hotspot really is anymore.

As for using tell, I wasn't sure how it was approached in game. It's at least a little strange, people's voices you don't know just popping into your head from across the continent. For some reason.

But, as noted, 30,000 rooms, small playerbase, we do what we have to do then?

When I first started SK with the playerbase about twice the size it is now I used the same technique and even then it was widely accepted as a way to "meet new people."

I mean, we're playing a game where you can fight dragons and all sorts of other creatures, but you're worried about a random voice popping up in your head coming across as strange? =p

That's my perspective, yeah. Send someone a tell if they look interesting. The worst that happens is you realize they're not worth your time.

Just don't ever send Alshain a tell if you see that character in-game. I've heard it can be hazardous to your health. :P
