When it comes to leveling, is enchanting or (insert non-damage spell here)a viable alternative to dealing damage?

Viable is a big word, it definitely has its uses, but combat via damage spells will be much faster for a caster. Some people chose to level the regular way (shooting stuff with your spells) to a certain level, maybe master or champion, and then get the last few levels off of just doing stuff... Enchanting, resurrecting, gating, etc.

A viable approach, albeit slower than the alternative.

I found it very slow, but possible. Mana is a big factor, so is charisma. Its also helpful to take frequent breaks from enchanting so I wouldn't hit the non-combat spell experience ceiling and waste the time spent using enchant to level.

There are caps on how much exp per day you can gain from spellcraft, but you do gain it.

Viable? Comparable? Not really.

It can be done, but it's kind of really slow. The thing is, there's a cap to the amount of XP you can earn per day via non-damage spells.

Question on my part: Is there a cap number of times in one sitting that you can cast a spell and get xp? For example, enchanting for hours and hours without ceasing (well, sleeping is allowed).

Yes. If you spend hours and hours, some of them are pretty much not going to count.

Why is that? If the xp ratio is so bad, why would there be a cap for xp?

I don't think it's THAT bad. The cap is the main reason it's not done often.

How much is the cap?
