I've been looking over the main page and I really like the rogue class. What's some good races for it? Advantages and disadvantages of each? Thank you. |

Human is perfect except they don't get infravision. Half-elf is good cause they get infravision and only one less point of str. |

Human is the best race for rogues. Infravision is easily taken care of by one of several magical items that grant the ability. It can also be taken care of by using a certain herb which is very easy to find if you know a scout to get it for you. Finally, if you join a tribunal, you can order your guards to cast the spell on you. A lot of people roll half-elf rogues, but I usually assume it's because they are too lazy to do one of those three things. Infravision is definitely necessary in certain situations. If you are new to the game, it might make sense to roll half-elf so you don't have to worry about this. If you plan on playing your character for more than a year, you might consider half-elf. Halflings are also a viable option. |

Alright, I decided to go with Half-Elf. Any tips on playing a rogue? Thank you all for the help. |

You need to max strength, dex, con If you go tribunal, charisma is important so you can order guards. I like maxing or modding wisdom if possible simply because in testing I have found it to help a lot with resisting charm person, which is a devastatingly OP spell available to sorcerers. Training wisdom on a rogue is not standard, though. Most people would probably recommend HP trains. Now that charm person can not be scribed, I would not train art at all. Before that change, I would have recommended 6 art. The best daggers are straight daggers. The next best thing to use is a pigsticker (same damage but worse accuracy). Two-handed weapons do way more damage than one-handed weapons. Always stab with two-handers. Good materials for your weapons are adamantite, energy, and cold-iron. Cold-iron is especially useful against elves, deep-elves, sprites and half-elves because they take extra damage from iron. Make sure to enchant your weapon. 6/6 is a minimum in my opinion because it is generally a very easy goal to achieve. 8 or 9 to damage is an obtainable goal if you have some time on your hands, and only go for more than that if you plan on being super l33t and crying when you get jlooted. You need to get frenzy, giant strength, and haste buffs in order to make your stab land and be as powerful as possible. The standard way of getting these buffs is herbs from a scout, but there are also potions and pills available in game. I will point out that no matter the strength of the giant strength spell, it will increase your maximum strength by 5. However, a weaker spell will increase your actual strength by less. For this reason, you should wear +3strength on top of maxing it so that you get the full benefit of the weak giant strength you will likely be using. Be mood aggressive whenever backstabbing. Rogues are absolutely devastating in the right circumstances. They are also relatively fragile and easy to gank. Shamans will always be able to kill you with voodoo, other rogues will be able to kill you with backstab, and unless you are in a tribunal, you will be vulnerable to people tripping you (because you're stuck in the second row). Rogues are kind of squishy and should avoid getting hit at all costs. Never, under any circumstances, be in the front row. ALWAYS have a pet or something in front of you. Disguise is one of the best skills in the game. Use it when pking. When backstabbing someone, it often makes sense to follow them first. This is because if they have their wimpy set high, they will flee after the first stab and you won't get a chance to land the second stab. If you follow, however, you will stab them, they will flee, you will follow, and then the second backstab will land and kill them. Following an enemy can be a risky tactic in certain scenarios, though, so keep that in mind. Your main pk abilities are backstab, circle stab, hamstring, dirt kick. The glance command is pretty useful because it will tell you if someone is back row, front row, or middle row. Rogues rely on the element of surprise. Going against a skilled opponent 1v1 when he knows you're coming is pretty much pointless. Rogues shine in group pk when the enemy group doesn't focus their attention on the rogue. You cannot backstab someone if their pulse is racing unless they have been blinded. Do not backstab barbarians. As for general advice applicable to all classes, always have a potion of word of recall in your inventory, and make an alias so you can quaff it at a moment's notice. BY THE WAY I KEEP EDITING THIS SO YOU MIGHT WANT TO REREAD IT IN ORDER TO GET THE FULL BENEFIT OF MY AWESOME ADVICE. |

I am more about practicality, so I think helf. People aren't going to hold infravision on you every time you're on, you don't want to wear anything glowing as a rogue, and darkness really sucks, especially when you're naked, new, and don't know where everything is. Die in a cave? You're going to have to wait until you find a spellcaster to give you a glowing item or cast infravision on you. It's very inconvenient. There's -nothing- wrong with rogue helfs. -edit- Also, I'm going to disagree on what most people say. Don't rely on "buffs" (items of a certain enchantment or spell) especially as a newbie. It is nice if you have them, but you should be able to hold your class on your own. |

Wow, this is a lot to take in. Thank you for all the tips Baldric. I read the help description and it says if your race or sex changes you need to update your description so it reflects it. is this also needed for disguises? |
