How can someone go about icly knowing that someone will no longer be around due to them deleting?

Tonnes of ways..... Use your imagination.

Ask hp or hf
ask friends
ask if they were in a group
rp hearing a rumour
rp a ghost visiting you
rp a gut feeling...

You are only limited by tour own limits.

IC, everyone should know that all their closest friends eventually go away. It is such a frighteningly consistent thing that there should be legendary stories and cautionary tales to that effect. There is hardly a character alive who should not have been warned of this effect by their parents/siblings/relatives.

Of course how you were raised should effect how you view this phenomena. For those of a darker persuasion it might be grounds to manipulate and abuse those you meet. For those of a sadder persuasion it might be grounds to distance yourself for you know it is a foregone conclusion that all your friends will leave. For those of a brighter persuasion it might be grounds to cherish and enjoy what time you can share with your friends before you part ways.

There is no real way to be certain that someone is never coming back, but everyone in the world will have to deal with it at.

Do be very cautious about that one. Someone got burned before for 'making stuff up' about ghost RP... think about it like this: if Hamlet's ghostly encounter was fake, it really influences what everyone thinks of his actions.

You can always get leadership of a tribunal then try to banish/pardon them....

Or if your god happens to be Thuban you can just make up whatever the hell you want.

I've always probably gone to far with this, but if I know someone has deleted I just flat out make something up.

I've rped enemies slipping on soap in the bathtub while they were gone and falling down and breaking their neck. I've rped stuff like enemies hanging themselves while engaged in auto-erotic activity (David Carradine) and are never going to be seen again, all kinds of crap.

Friends, I usually just say they have retired or they passed heroicly and such. People deleting can actually be a great source of enjoyment for me if they don't leave behind to many details and I get to make stuff up.

If someone leaves behind an actual ic story I stick to it though. I don't twist or distort the truth.

I just always say they committed suicide, friend or foe. Unless you age death, that's really what happens. Menkh often comments on the excessively high suicide rate.

You say they're gone from the realms forever and you don't know why, unless there was some explanation that your character would have had access to. You shouldn't make stuff up.

Maybe they committed suicide, maybe they died and their soul was unable to find life again, maybe they grew too old or whatever. Maybe they retired. To actually say it was one of these things, however, you should have to have interacted with the character in question before they deleted.
