I've played another MUD where, if you want to train your skills/spells, you need to train on NPCs your own level to be successful. If you practice on low-level NPCs, you will see no improvements. Is SK the same way or does it work to practice skills (like a weapon skill) on low-level NPCs? |

It does work to practice skills and spells on low level PCs. |

That's an interesting idea, but not so interesting that I could see myself making that change. Because people would probably freak out. |

For the record, I'm not suggesting it! |

Oh man, that'd be hilarious. But yes, as Sadr said, skills seem to get gains regardless of the NPC that you're practicing them on. |

In the MUD I mentioned, the skill improvement code led to unwritten rules like "Spend 20 hours practicing dodge/parry/shield block at level 15 or you'll never be able to bring them up later." Skills would only train to 75% and from there you'd have to use them to get the % up. The only way to do it effectively was to lure 10+ NPCs into one room and try to fight them all at once for thirty seconds... then sleep for a few minutes... rinse, repeat. Doesn't work at level 50. All in all, I'm very glad SK does not work the same way. |
