I think there's a nice motivation here, but outright preventing people from learning languages is basically a big gigantic pain in the butt. However, the mystique of Firmyrn is totally lost because it's no longer the "Lost tongue", it's just that bold blue text tongue that most people don't have mastered. Setting a limit on tongues is silly, though. I know someone that tried only learning a few tongues, and gave up pretty quickly out of frustration.

I do have two potential, alternate solutions.

1) Limit how many tongues can be learned in one day, based on intelligence. Three would be the max (if you had 20+ int) and one, of course, the minimum (less than 10 or so). It would reduce the cheapening effect the mentoring system has on tongues.

2) Limit how many tongues can be mastered based on intelligence. This isn't the best solution, especially because you can't always choose which tongues you want to master first, and the potential caveats involved with the occasional precision necessary with OOC communication could be frustrating. Just food for thought.

In addition, I think making Firmyrn a higher level tongue might be good - make it un-mentorable, so that it really does go back to being something of a secret tongue.

Other ideas that have been mentioned many times before, but follow in the same vein would include making deep an innate tongue for delfs/gnomes/dwarves, sylvan innate for sprites/elves.

Languages are fine, receiving text like: "XxX tells you: Hreddimgs" for more than 2 mins can cause a headache. Speaking with 5 people at the same time and getting mostly incomprehensible tells, makes it impossible to bare.

I agree on that.

I wonder if you guys would have agreed to that before people who got told by leet people where Firmyrn could be learnt told you.

Or maybe it's just the cynic in me that says only he who possesses a thing wants it to be valued.
