I think the length people keep characters has been fine. A lot of people stick with long lived characters because not only does it get them respect OOCly, but it
does make a difference roleplaywise in game. I have seem many examples of this.
As for people who do not bother keeping characters long, that is good too. Someone mentioned the relatively small playerbase. The turnover rate has been doing pretty well, so that even "leet" players have new characters to constantly stir things up. Imagine how boring things would get if everybody kept their characters to age death? That would severely disrupt the light/dark dominance pendulum.
