Personally, I think it would be kind of neat if some new skills could be added across the classes that involve equipment modification rather than limiting it to enchantments by certain casters. For example
Warriors - "Forging" Allows the creation of standard equipment with base ores, specifically geared to enchantments.
Mercs- "Field Modification" - Adds attack skill bonuses to equipment with improvised additions to armor, such as spikes, tips, and other add-ons.
Bards - "It's all in the Presentation" - Addition of exotic bonuses or affect based skills, such as charisma, age, height, weight, +intimidate, +charm and so on via a skill that basically "ornaments" one's armor and weapons.
Swashes - "Exotic Weaponry" - The ability to craft strange and exotic weaponry that may not be found anywhere else from base ores.
Shamans - "Runesmithing" - The ability to craft runes that can be worn as a symbol and invoke certain abilities, NPCs, or whatever else have you.
Just some ramblings. Heed or ignore, it's all good.
