Are you serious? How can you even play this game without ANSI Color?

Easy. If there's anything I feel MUST be colored so that I can distinguish it to the rest of the blur of text, I highlight it with my client. Sometimes I'll turn it on for exploring/questing, but 15+ years of MUDding gives me better clues of what to look for than color.

Nah, it's not like that. It's more like the choice of colours + interference with my highlights + drawing my attention to details I don't care about + all sorts of other things that just makes me dislike it all around. No offense to SK... I've yet to find an ansi color MUD that I did prefer to using my own Highlights.

Still, if my dislike of ansi is really that uncommon, then I can muddle through wih it where necessary, but I've noticed that I'm not the only one with a problem on language identification, so it seemed like it could be useful.

I agree with Achernar. If you are on Windows and don't want to be using a heavy MUD client, you should be using PuTTY. It's just a lightweight Telnet/SSH client but it has color and it's small enough to fit on a floppy (or a keychain USB drive obviously) and run directly from the EXE without needing any installation. Just google for putty - it's the first link.
