This discussion is occurring because of a few hellions using enlarge to get more crits. Said hellions had to keep their weapon a size smaller because of the weight of their weapon when enlarged.

The Mighty Fluffball shouldn't be writing such crap.

I don't believe your theory about size small weapons, Fluff.

Bah. You know the drive-by cleave was fun.

Jesus Christ, have I said it doesn't make sense to me either enough times already? >_> Let me reiterate: as a hellion, I would strongly advise against using a size small weapon--for what my advice on playing hellions is worth, which is roughly about the same as my advice on buying a kangaroo over ebay is worth.

Tioras, isn't a naginata less accurate than a landsknecht? I thought they had the same damage, with more speed on the naginata and more accuracy on the landy. That's what I remember from comparing the two, at least.

Stratford: no, it's occurring because I noticed a high number of criticals using a small weapon. I wasn't enlarged, and I wasn't talking about Grakus and Mitch's tricks. Also, bills suck. Period.

When the discussion took place, the nagi was more accurate. Weapons have been tweaked a lot since then.

I wish I still had a log of it.

I think the Hellion is one of my favorite classes ever to have played. When I first started playing him I ended up getting my [REDACTED] beat a lot. But it took an article that Cannibal wrote for me to understand. There are basically three kinds of hellions. And your stats will reflect what kind you are. If you play the wrong role then you will have a hard time.

When you think of people like Benjamin you have to think of who played the character, it was Peso. And not to inflate his ego, but he knows probably 99% more about this game than 90% of us. So he knew where to find strong dominates that he wasn't afraid of throwing away. He had an army of support, which spent countless hours in preparation. And he only kept the strongest of allies around him when he would group attack. I played two characters with Benjamin and when in a group I don't think we ever lost.

Hellions take preparation as does every class. But they take even more because you must know what stats you're going to have and need. And you'll have to know where to get what mods for yourself. It's a knowledge game when you play a hellion.

Now the idea of hellion vs paladin I'm still on the side that paladins got it a little better. Nimbus is really just to strong. And they really did get a better master spell in Holy Word. I still think Hellions should get holy word as Paladin and Hellion are both clergy in their faiths. I also think that for role play and functional ability they should both be able to make symbols for their patron.

As it stands I'm happy with Hellions overall. I know that I've soloed a few classes and I've been killed by nearly all of them. That's the way the game works.

I don't play often anymore, but it just happens that the most recent character I played was a centaur hellion who reached Master level.

Unfortunately, I was subsequently deleted after a couple months inactivity.
*sigh*

This was the first hellion I've played in over a decade on this game. I can't speak for any other race than a centaur hellion. But from my experience? Hellions are pretty freakin sweet. This is a class that can get beat down pretty bad in the hands of a n00b. But with even a moderate amount of skill and knowledge of the mud, a hellion can be a remarkably versatile, dangerous, and exciting character to play.

Dominate turned out to be one of the most useful spells in my character's repertoire. This spell can make a hellion ridiculously dangerous.

Hellfire rocks my world. 'Nuff said.

Rift? Please don't overlook this as one of the hellion's single most useful and utilitarian spells. I *love* this spell for the hellion.

Cleave? Maybe it's just because I was a large-sized centaur with max strength usually using a double-handed cleaving weapon, but I was *amazed* at how many critical cleaves I scored. And it was laughable how easily my cleaves with iron weapons could drop sprites, elves, and half-elves. NPCs of these races were often killed in a single hit, even when I didn't score a "critical" cleave.

Curse + poison + plague + weaken + blind + deaf + chill touch
If you actually take these spells seriously and use them wisely & accordingly to your opponent, you can leave them an ineffectual mess.

Combat casting
This skill rocks. When using a huge 2-handed weapon, you're still dishing out massive damage when concentrating.

Protection + shield
Both great defensive spells. I never even found/trained SHIELD, I didn't need it. That left me with enough concentration to hold protection + domination or to hold protection + fight first row + hellfire.

Sneak, hide, invis
Love these spells, very useful. Faerie fire often turned out to be one of my biggest frustrations.

The only single problem that I had with my hellion is that it always seemed pretty ridiculous that my powerful gods of darkness couldn't even provide their dark knight with the power to see at night. Oooooh, real scary guys.

Otherwise, don't go talkin smack about the class if you haven't played it. And when you're talkin smack about the class, keep in mind that a lot of players are interested in a lot of aspects of their character beyond PVP, and skills/spells that may be "useless" in the PK arena may provide extremely valuable to rounding out a character in other ways. Hellion's an awesome class, no need to go screw up a good thing.
