I actually have no problem with the way that necromancers are right now. I can think of some ways around their strengths. I won't discuss them here, though.

I can understand that and respect it.

However, it seems to me that you're missing a part of my point here. What I am/was trying to say is that necromancers should be balanced with other classes. You're certainly not the only person who knows ways of dealing with necromancers, but that doesn't mean that the necromancer class should have such a vast potential that it could nearly be placed in a category of its own. They should be a class of equal power, compared to others. In short, yes necromancers can be dealt with and killed, no they should not be able to accomplish things by themselves that other classes cannot dream of.

Dulrik has made clear he disagrees with you. He has repeatedly written that some races are intentionally better (mechanically) than other races, and some classes are intentionally better than other classes. Accept that ;).

My only problem with this idea is that imo, given the importance of animate dead to necro's at the moment, it would turn necro's into a bad sorc with less survivability and utility.

Really now..I'd like to see a log of that. From my understanding the guardians were changed so necros couldn't solo them. You know, I think one good change to help balance necros is make animates not be able to be buffed. The fact you have 20 furied NPCs coming at you is bad enough.

I didn't log it Kin, but I was able to kill the Hammer's inner guardian earlier in the week with a control and 15 wraiths. The outer guardian is the one a necro can no longer solo.

And the outer one can easily be dealt with by a priest/shaman + melee class, which incidentally also makes the spawning cabal guards out of the equation for the necro.

Honestly, although I realize this is slightly off topic, if any NPC in the game warranted a script to immunize it from just having endless amounts of NPCs thrown at it, it should be inner guardians, and not some random eq bucket like Rajjin Waxx...

I must be missing something but wouldn't this be the same thing as removing animate dead entirely? There's already a control undead spell and there's a decent variety of creatures to control. Why would you ever animate anything, except for convenience of proximity?

I don't like the change. It would wimp necromancers too far, IMO.

For balance, I'd rather see a limit on the number of undead that can be animated (e.g., only as many as can fit in your group).

I fully agree with you that this would to much of a wimp for the necros. However I think your no larger then what you can fit in a group is perfect. It means that a necromancer would have a group of 7-8 undead. They would spend more time giving them better armor and weapons.

I always thought that maybe making the order all command only work on charms within one's group would be a decent fix. Necros could still have as many undead as they can control they would just have to order the ones out of group formation individually, causing a decent amount of order lag.
