Hello, It's me Orac. I almost never post on the forums these days, and I seldom play. Good news for some bad for others. Anyways, I recently "deleted" an alt I don't want and was forced to retire him instead.

I like the idea of the retire command I see what it's about and why it's there. To fight rage deletes. I think the retire command needs a helpfile though, and also I'm curious. How long does my character linger retired before I can be rid of him. I like the retire command but I genuinely don't want my deleted alt. He's not coming back. How long does he stick around for?

The character goes inactive and gets time deleted as it normally would if you hadn't logged on in time to keep it active, if what I had read on it is correct. Being retired means that you can't log in without getting Dulrik to make the character active again.

Travorn is correct.

Also: Don't worry about deleting characters. Just get over it. This is the 21st century. I have no concerns about the storage space your character is taking, so you shouldn't concern yourself either.

So um, there's no helpfile for this, and I haven't been able to find my answer via searching the forums, so I thought I'd raise it here.

Upon retiring a character, are they removed from cabals/tribunals? Or does a player need to get certain affairs in order before retiring, if they want the option to join a faction on another character?

Okay, so I found this, which was written when retirement was only a twinkle in Dulrik's eye:

You'd immediately lose paragon and/or high follower. You would be removed from any tribunal or cabal membership (and leadership). You would be de-looted of all limited items and stripped of cash. You would then be put into retired status and logged out.

I think it'd be helpful if "help retirement" were a thing, though. <3 Please?

The lack of a help file is an oversight on my part. But here is a relevant quote:

Neat, it let me log out that way but lock my character. Does he get auto deleted now or will he be safe once I got underway on my yellow submarine?

He'll be auto-deleted after the same amount of time as any other inactive character. However, he has been fully de-looted and is no longer in any factions. I haven't fully formulated an Afterlife policy for retirement, but you can go ahead and post there as normal if you want. But once you post there, it would become more difficult for you to petition him for reinstatement as a regular character.

Someone reported that their unretired character had lost their religion. If true, that's a bug. You should only lose HF or favored flags for religion.

Yeah, the storage character Dulrik has been hoarding space for over a decade.

Hey dulrik your castration code seems to be broken. It's been a few months for more than one character( not logging in ) and their loot is not getting redistributed.
