I am against any feature that introduces more power inflation into the game, which would be the end result of allowing characters to get more than the 28 stat trains gained while leveling (plus any bonus stat trains via mentoring).

I welcome new ideas! Growth is good for the playerbase and the game.

The mentoring system is relatively new to this game. Before it was implemented, you could only raise attributes by leveling, and it was impossible to get more than the 24 points collected between amateur and GM. Bonus stat points are, indeed, supposed to be difficult to obtain, and the cloak surrounding how mentor points are rewarded is securely in place. Keep helping newbies with meaningful mentor interactions, and you will see extra stat points.

It's not relatively new, it's been in the game since around 2005-6.

@archaicsmurf: I posted the topic here because this is where it belongs. Before I put my idea fully out there, I wanted to get a feel for how the majority of the playerbase felt about it. The reason being? Well, I'm glad you asked. I didn't feel like wasting the energy explaining an idea that no one wanted to hear, which I've seemed to make a habit of. Being new to this MUD has nothing to do with this thread really, though I suppose I wouldn't have been questioning as much. I view the GAMEPLAY forum to be an open forum, as stated, to discuss ways to improve gameplay, oddly enough. Keeping that in mind, I don't think I've really posted anything under this topic that doesn't belong. Sorry if my activity on the forum bothers you.

@everyone else: I needed to know what more experienced players thought about the mentorship program in regards to gaining bonus attributes as well as what they thought about having another way to attain such a bonus. It seems the game is somewhat more balanced without everyone maxing their stats (correct?). I appreciate the responses and I suppose I'll keep my ideas bottled up for now, until someone else decides to bring up the topic. Take it easy guys.

It's still newish, IMO, considering that SK has been around since 1996 and the game existed longer without it than with it. But let's not argue semantics in this thread. I don't bother correcting your erroneous use of commas with subordinating conjunctions like "because" in a thread where you're attempting to assert proper grammar rules; you'll have to excuse my differing opinion on the newness of the mentor system.

As unpopular as it always is to side with Ardith, I must say that it is a bizarro world in which 7+ years is considered new for a computer game update.
