Unless things have changed recently there are steel nunchaku, and I believe sais, that can be bought. I always had trouble finding scythes though, all the farmers I found had iron.

You can also buy copper kamas for cheap. Also, Kalte nunchuckus, kamas and sais are weaponized versons of farm tools. Despite the fact that the farm impliment can kill people, it would most likely be as useful as somone defending themselves with a farming pitchfork vs someone wielding a military pitchfork.

They were tools, very little has changed since their convertion to martial weapons. You can go to any owkinowan hardware store and pick up a pair of Kama, they are sharp and better balance than anything you can buy from a catalog.

The point of this thread is the fact there are a HUGE number of subclasses of weapons and only a few are open to low level characters. Ditch the number of tanso weapons, mithril too, make them valuable again. Increase the number of subtypes starting with wood and going up to steel. I think we have all been spoiled by the tanso for sale.

The last time this subject came up, I changed the code to substantially slow the wearing out of lesser materials. Obviously some materials are always going to be better, but you should be able to get by just fine with steel or even iron items as a newbie, where many of your NPC opponents don't even have equipment of their own.

What would be more interesting than reducing the number of tanso weapons or anything like that would be to decrease the disparity between subclass effectiveness. Yes, some weapons will always be faster, more accurate and more damaging than others but if the difference between them were less you would see more diverse weapons being used as well as more RP possibilities. There is a reason you dont see any flail-wielding flagellent priests, or shamans with juju staffs or anything like that, and the reason is that they suck. This is also the reason we will forever see mercs with flamberge/bspear specs and very little else.

I belong to the very-little else category. I have a subtype I tend to stick with on many of my characters, and it serves me pretty well, despite being unpopular.

Why do rapiers exist?

Wakizashi are simply better.

Same speed, and damage, but the wak's are more accurate.

I'm sure there are alot more unbalanced ones, but that always struck me the most.

This is like arguing that a critical hit rate of 2.5 is vastly superior to a critical hit rate of 2.4.

There are low level greataxes made of iron. But no lowbie is ever going to get them where they are. There are also a few other low level greataxes of the steel variety, one no lowbie will get, the other is actually in a low level training area; its just not a very popular area so most people don't know it exists.

I'm a greataxe enthusiast so I know all there is to know about greataxes.

Some of the weapon types like flails are situational specific. I could see a barbarian using one with fury against a swash buckler. Then again, I haven't really experimented with them to know how wise that is say compared to just using wild fighting.

Wakizashi's have builder limitations which are supposed to make them much more rare to compensate for the slight increase.
