Acid blast quite some time ago was increased casting time and damage because due to MP it was almost useless in high level PvP fights. I should think you would find (I havent tested it myself) Acid has a longer casting time and does less damage than magma. Acid does not stick, is effect by MR. The fact that Acid brakes items follows with the idea that a sorceror is less likely to get anything useful from a fight same with their mentor level spell petrification. Also keep in mind acid blast comes from behind a charm. Where magma comes from behind an elemental.

Magma has a reflex save just like acid and you can take half damage.

Magma can not be resisted with magical resistance, acid can.

The first magma that sticks does double damage to the recipient.

Stuck magma keeps on damaging the target.

Damage on magma spray is a lot higher than acid blast.

Acid blast breaks (not brakes silmar =p) pretty much anything, magma breaks no eq.

There are racial resistances to acid blast.

Resist elements works especially well on magma, not at all on acid.

I think acid is slightly faster casting time. Don't quote me on that. Magma isn't slow by any means, it takes just a little longer than blindness to cast.

As I've understood it the reflex save does not make you take half damage. You always take full damage from magma spray.

There is a reflex save component to the spell though, and the only thing it prevents is the magma from *sticking* to your character. If one should ever fail the reflex save then the magma clings to them and that hit does double damage.

Acid blast on the other hand has a saving throw where you take half damage from the spell.

Dulrik clarified this when he took out the yellow message for magma spray.

It doesn't matter how strong either spell is anyway. The average player is dead when confronted with them.

The saving throw for magma spray is only for the sticky effect. You always take full damage from a magma spray whether or not you saved. The save just stops you from taking horrendous damage. Even on a saved magma spray it does more damage than acid spray (tested it out semi-recently).

Hence my original post, you take either full damage or double, never half. But nooo people have to argue.
