How is identifying a corpse bad RP?

If you're referring to the way it -used- to be, then no, that's not good RP. We're not talking magic here... we're talking about some dude walking down the street, seeing a severed leg and automatically knowing who it belongs to, despite not necessarily having any identifable characteristics other than racial, and never having been introduced to the person.

Wth? That must be one intimate relationship going on. Or not.

The only way I could see that reasonably happening is if it's a chopped off -head- of a person you've seen often or a BARE limb with some extremely detailed and identifable markings. Even the most photographic of minds would have difficulty cataloguing that. Nor is this CSI: SK.

It's nothing more than code that was made without taking poor RPmanship into account and was dealt with as should be.

A better question would be: How can you possibly consider it GOOD rp to instantly know the name a hacked off, clothed and bloody limb belongs to, simply by looking at it?

Magic isn't realistic, it just doesn't make sense. Why should I get to know someones name just because of magic?

I'm not being serious, just mocking everyone who tries to base arguments on how things are in reality.

Unless this is supposed to be some twinkmude with godmages, magic DOES have limitations. Identification is an entirely different sphere than necromancy in most "worlds".

I want skins to have the names back too.

There was just much fun whipping out 60 skins of different people, maybe a few repeats, and people being like...holy hell.

I mean I understand steaks and body parts...save heads.

Skins should really have them though.

Where were you guys when I got whipped about this issue on the forums? I liked letting people have their trophies myself, but I couldn't really argue about it being realistic. This was the compromise.

Ummm no. Can't really identify where a skin came from, short of Tattooes/Birthmarks/Unique Scars or having the head still attached. And unless you know the person, you still wouldn't know where it came from even given the marks provided. So no, it's better off not having their names attached.

Rather have the ability to lop off heads and shrinking them down for proofs of kill.

You have to admit, it's borderline OOC knowledge when a character name is displayed by the code when all your character sees is a severed finger.

You might have a chat with someone who saw the actual PK and gain the knowledge via something a bit more solidly IC, but back when the code change happened it was all whining about folks abusing the character-name display from skins & body-parts.

I agree though, bragging rights was always in two parts: not only did they obtain the trophy, but they've defended it against any revenge attacks by the victim who hasn't been able to recover it.

Probably banned :P

Seriously though, change it back, at least for skins. That would be 100% awesome. Anyone with a bit of intelligence knows that ICly 'guessing' who someone is because of a lost finger is out, but let's face it, there are ways around the problem anyway if someone really wants to do it.

I personally think there should be no names in anything, I really hate it when someone figures out your name by chopping off your arm.

Yeah, but anyone sensible will realise that that's ooc info, and if they "know" it's you because of that and you log/report it I'm sure an imm would correct them.

Names should be present on skins just so you can be all "yeah". Without names on skins, PK is even more meaningless than usual because I can't walk around with an awesome trophy cabinet.
