Oh, and I never said I wanted people not to recognize me, I said I don't want them to know everything about me in one glance. Get your facts straight.

You come on to these forums to make a post to flame someone you saw in the game? You judge me on the basis of my description? Im pretty sure I know how to play this game, I've had enough characters and been in plenty of cabals/tribunals. Now, I suggest you to stop your bitching and whining in a gameplay forum and play the [REDACTED] game.

Then you know the rules and should suck a curse for breaking them.

A decent description shows how your character looks, it has nothing to do with a Bio on the character.

First thing we do in D&D when we meet is descripe ourselves so our friends have a decen image to picture, the rest gets roleplayed out over time. You have a bad concept of what a description entails.

Yes, I do know the rules, and I've been following them. You rant like a little child not getting what he wants. I see no wrong in my actions or my description. I've fulfilled the requirements of a description. If you think a three paragraph description fille with character story, how they feel, or how they act is right, then you are sadly mistaken. A description is not suppose to have any of those. Yes, my description only fulfills the bare minimum, but it does fulfill it.

I am not sure I follow. How would people know "everything" about your character in a glance, if you wrote an average of 3-5 lines? It's only supposed to be a reference, which you can purposefully keep very vague and general, inviting people to find out more.

Thats what I did, I kept my description vague with three lines.

You assume I am singling you out, I was trying to help you, I get irritated with every piece of trash or no description I see on anyone over level 5, I pray about every single one of them.

If I have to follow the rules I expect other too also.

Sure, I think the main "complaint" here is that you didn't bother putting the least bit of effort in it. You can phrase those characteristics in a much more eloquent way. If you can type up a paragraph on the forums, surely it isn't that much of an issue?

If help is required, I'll volunteer.

If you get irritated like that maybe you need to get over yourself or get some help. And I'm going to say this one final time, unless an imm comes and disagrees with me, my description is fulfilling the rules that the helpfile has said.

I really don't see the issue some people have with description writing. This is a text game, it depends upon descriptions to create the vivid world that it is...or can be. Hemmingway-esque descriptions that are, because of hard returns, three lines, just don't do it. You become a stick figure in a landscape of well-painted images.

With my first serious character I mentored someone I thought was new...at least apprentice in level, no desc. I taught some basics, she ran out of exp, and I told her while she was preparing to learn more, she really should ... I don't remember how I worded it ... make her face more memorable or something. Then I oocly advised, politely, that she needed to have a desc before I taught her more. It's part of the rules, it's part of playing an RP enforced game. There followed one of the dumbest arguments I've ever had the shame to be a part of. An older player told me it was probably someone experienced, when I was thinking I was shepherding someone even newer than myself.

This isn't just a criticism of this one character, it's a criticism of all players who barely skate by with a few words and call it good. Who cares if you've had 20 gms and are the king of l33t peekayz? Write a decent desc. Give a better impression of the person you're bringing to life with your rp. It's not hard.

Basic guidelines for those who have trouble writing descs:
Basic body build, shape of face, height and weight, eye color and hair color, length and/or style of hair, any outstanding feature: for this, just pick a feature and exaggerate it somehow. Bulbous nose, shaggy eyebrows, swollen knuckles, calloused hands, buck teeth. Scars or tattoos, from the get-go or added with time to add character.

You don't have to write sonnets, but at least give a description you'd give a cop if someone mugged you.

I am putting effort into my character, just because I have a short description, doesn't mean I don't care. Its a way I'm trying to play now, before I had long descriptions for my characters and I think now it shouldn't have been like that. You don't rp by reading someone's description, you speak with them. I just think Redman needs to get off his pedestal.
