A potential downside are Ghost Students, people who roll characters but either never play or never want to be mentored on them.

We call those l337 pl4y45. They're usually in cabals before they have a description set.

I kind of like this idea anyways, since it would at least stop the need for spamming mentor to get someone's attention (assuming people would bother to look at the lists when they logged on.)

Also, Prayer logs might be nice since it's pretty much a crapshoot on whether or not you get an imm at all, let alone one that wants to talk to you.

I really wish sometimes that the mentor command wasn't limited by kingdom. Like, If I rolled in Taslamar but I happened to be training near Nerina, I wish I could throw up a mentor command and it would call on the mentors of that nation, instead of Taslamar. That way if I'm having trouble finding a mentor, I could try several inns (but avoid any 'darkie' inns if I don't want to be taught by someone evil).

Absolutely! I made a char in one kingdom, spent TONS of time trying to get to a distant kingdom for training, equipment and the like only to need a mentor and not benefit from the system.

Am I the only person that doesn't rush straight to Kytar for the trainers?

You have it right, laeZ1.

And grep, I think it's well worth it to find newbs who aren't seasoned players, who sincerely do need help, and who you can get started in the right direction sifting through the ghosts and vets.

No. I think it's a waste of time. I'd rather be leveling than running a lowbie to the Empire for skills a mentor could teach.
