How about this, a sliding scale....where protection versus your own alignment = 0 and versus the polar opposite = 70%? Example, someone plays a principled priest and they cast protection, they would have 0% protection against other Principled, 10% against Scrupulous, 20% against Dogmatic, 30% against Unprincipled, 40% against Anarchist, 50% against Aberrant, 60% against Miscreant and 70% against Diabolic. Reverse for diabolic characters. Not sure how the other ones would sort themselves out, but I am sure a system could be worked out for them.

This way, every alignment has an opposite that they have a strong protection from, and those they have a weak protection from. Never an all/half/nothing case.

Jorinthia, that is exactly how the spell used to work about six years ago. It was changed to the current form. To do that would be to make a step backwards which in this case isn't beneficial.

It's less helpful to greys, sure, but on the same hand, it's completely useless against greys. I fail to see how greys need a buff in this circumstance.

Well, I can't help it if, as someone who plays a priest, I find myself thinking more about priest spells. The fact kind of stands that protection, in its current form, is less helpful to grays than it is to darks/lights. Even if I don't have the solution, I'm right about the problem.

That's because you decontextualize the "problem" ;)

They have a weak spot here, if you could even call it that, because being gray affords them so many other benefits. Even a gray protection won't protect against a graybie, for instance. If any change were to be made, I'd suggest that graybie protection protects across the board (still at reduced efficiency) - graybies aren't loathe to kill others. That would boost the graybies who suffer the most from their own less effective spears/HWs and other graybies would take a very, very slight hit. Win/win in my book.

I still really don't see how greybies are getting the short end of the stick here.

Light vs. Dark. Both have protection, both get full protection bonuses.

Light vs. Grey/Dark vs. Grey: Greys get 1/2 protection, lighties/darkies get absolutely nothing. Greys are also immune to all spears of faith and holy words (Except gray holy words).

There's a reason why twink characters in the past have always rolled grey and then played like a darkie. It lets them do more damage to everyone, laugh at the Hammer, and also be immune to holy words while still getting a bit of reduced damage against lighties and darkies.

Grey protection does NOT need to be buffed.

so much anger and hostility. Don't forget it was just a simple thought. Even if an idea is bad some people might now have played several years ago and don't know how good/bad they may have it right now. :drunk:

Anyone in a religion should be immune to Voodoo and Spirit Horde.

SK Character: Briner, Senach, Myson, others.
How about this: Give grays the option of selecting the aura they protect against, but also give Grep's half damage versus gray for both light and dark auras.

Or the sliding scale. That sounds good too.

Greybies are overpowered as is, but I'll take either of these options.

Greybies are overpowered?

They take longer to level, and get zapped by all aura gear. Plus the greybie protection and holy words aren't as effective.

The only reason I use them is because it gives free reign for RP.
