I've never seen a mastered spell fail if the caster was not deaf and was without armor penalties. Skills, yes. Spells, no.

I agree.

I've had Jaeyd for quite a long time now and don't remember EVER failing a mastered spell.

The man himself, although I am not sure he'll say anything here.

Spells are abilities that have lag before their use and cost ME. Skills are abilities that have lag after their use and generally cost PE and occasionally ME as well. Both max at the higher 90's in percentage of success.

What spell have you seen fail? I would have guessed the newbies were seeing a "Spell failed" message from word of recall in no recall zones or without enough PE, or from gate/summon etc. where the spell didn't actually fail but was instead somehow resisted or target was wrong.

I'm sure you wouldn't fall into this category, but am curious what spell you've seen this happen with. I guarantee you that if you cast 'cure light' 1000 times once mastered, it will succeed 1000 times.

That's my understanding and experience as well. I was just looking to find out if there would be a concrete answer given by the 'man himself', as Meissa put it.

Go test it, but from what I have seen with enchant armor and enchant weapon it can and does fail. I have both mastered and fail, though it is rare. And not, not talking the does not appear to do anything message. I would have to dig through my logs and find it though if you want proof. I think the actual percent is less than 1% fail rate at mastered, rare yes but it does happen.

I am not 100% sure because I haven't played in too long to remember precisely, but I'm pretty sure in my enchanting I have seen fails post-gm. And, further, if you cast cure light a thousand times it will occasionally fail.

I've failed a spell that was mastered before.

I think the 'Go test it' is a ridiculous statement. Especially as I believe mastered spells don't fail. As if I test it 1000 times and there are no fails, someone will just say well you didn't test it enough.

I will go search my logs then. I know it fails, I just failed on enchant armor last night or the night before.
