I agree that this spell should not affect pcs.

Personally, I have had some fun times roleplaying with charm. I think if the saves were fixed, it would be fine. I might change the fact that you can't get things out of your container (since that is usually where your drink container is) but you can eat and drink and I see no reason why you should be able to quaff or tell.

If you're having a hard time with people hassling you or wasting your time, a quick prayer or an email will always fix that situation. Keeping someone charmed too long can get you punished as it is.

I agree with ardith that it should not affect PCs. Windows has enough viruses as it is, and to add Charm Person to the mix would just be torture. I would even consider buying a Mac at that point. Keep Charm Person off my PC!

This is a snippet from a 2 years old post:

There are different kind of spells, each with a unique usage:
create water - creates water in a container
create food - creates appropriate food depending on religion
fly - makes you fly
charm person - allows the caster to force someone into:
-Tanking
-Killing
-Holding things
-Casting spells the sorceror doesn't have in his own spellset
-Using skills the sorceror doesn't have in his own skillset
-Using items that would otherwise harm the sorceror and generally offer great convenience.

Charm person does more than enough. It's a single spell, NOT a spellset of it's own. There is no need for it to be an I-WIN spell in PK, let other incantations do something, just for the fun of it.

End all QQ now!!! The easiest, cleanest, rational and balancing solution.

Once again...

Remove charm for Player Characters.

Problem solved.

Also, breaking charm over a flying zone needs to go away.

I've tried the praying thing in the past and never got a response.

"Roleplaying" with charm? Who does that in pk, honestly? And forcing RP on someone is just ridiculous especially if it takes a long period of time where the one that is charmed cant do anything at all.

It's really not fair that a class gets a spell (especially the most powerful class already) that they can cast at someone and if (usually when) it lands with no effort at all order them to drop everything/kill them or make them go to jail for 100's of days if they're wanted somewhere. With no way to stop it, and no way to contact someone for help if it lands.

Well, I do obviously. In fact most people I've found do, unless they are incredibly poor sports. The use is also not limited to PK.

And honestly, if you feel you are being "forced" to rp then something is probably wrong. You aren't supposed to be able to contact people for help if it lands, that defeats the whole point.

It's well-known that prayers are not always heard. If you send an email the matter will be dealt with I assure you, most likely with the charmer being punished at that point.

As for the rest of the argument - "if it lands" - that doesn't seem to matter. If any offensive spell/skill lands, you're going to lose all your eq and be screwed.

I also kind of like the fact you can use it to put people in jail, I remember a sorc who roleplayed a bounty hunter at one time. What if you are a follower of Ain who wants the law to be served to the letter? There is really no other way.

I just don't see how the spell is any different from other insta-death spells/skills, once it is put on the same level.

Marfik, if I get hit by petrification, voodoo, or good ol' finger of death, I'm dead, but I'm still in control of my personal destiny.

Charm person takes away that right.

I'm with jhloreb, ardith, and Edoras (how often does that happen?). Charm person should not affect PCs.

I've been charmed and I RPed when I was charmed. I'd RP with the people I've charmed if they were still around after the battle but, usually, things are so chaotic that someone stuns them and they are taken to jail or someone kills them before I get the opportunity. I've also RPed about the moral issues that charm person raises.

For the record, I also think that saying "I'm charmed," while technically possible, violates the spirit of the spell.

I like the fact that it affects PCs: It makes the spell something more than a pet spell. I've used it to make sure a PC who liked to flee if I so much as looked at him funny was instead stunned and imprisoned. I'm looking forward to taking someone alive so that I can question them. I've never even bothered trying it against like-level PCs because the casting time is so long I don't want to waste the time on a spell that might not land but maybe I should finish training art and give it a shot.
