I'll agree that swashies being able to trip while prone may not be the solution for them. I was really hoping to find useful solutions (or rather, suggestions) to help the class out.
Is the class truly under powered in relation to other warrior classes?
Is there a passive ability that would help them out you can think of?

I like the discussion. Keep it up.
Let's see, I can think of two passive abilities that could help them become more on par with merc/barbar
1. a passive skill that let them get both benefits of mood aggressive and defensive, increasing their damage output along with their survivability.
2. a passive skill that helps them negate damage, swashbucklers are a light class melee fighter who are suppose to go toe to toe with mercs and barbar's but both these classes are heavy armored, get more attacks, have ways to increase their damage and can benefit from the massive weapon buff. now then a swashbuckler is suppose to be the agile fighter, but mercs get every skill a swsahbuckler gets to make them more tanky, besides the extra chance to parry, but mercs have shields. It would be nice if being the agile fighters they are, they moved with the attack thus making it cause less damage even by a minor percentage.
now then for active abilities there's really only one that comes to mind and that is
Lunge: can be used to open a fight with or during combat to lunge suddenly at the target with both weapons. can be parried/dodged but hard to do so.
