Admins are encouraged to make decisions within the scope of existing rules. They are also encouraged to post a message to the admin discussion list detailing the decision if they believe it might be considered controversial.

I have answered your questions. Now it is time to stop trolling.

You all have a lot of personal drama (like waaaaaay more than most communities) and it's really a drag to watch it. Kinda sad, it ruins the game, and makes me want to never visit the forums.

I'm sorry it brings you down theORplayer. I recommend never visiting the General Discussion forums, as it is supposed to be the only section that allows this kind of thing. Sadly it does come through other places as well, but I am damned when I allow people to speak their minds (drama) and also damned when I stamp them out (censorship, cover-up).

Whatever, this is the forum you made for flames and hot topics. If you can kindly show me where I'm violating a rule, I'll willfully delete my posts, apologize, log out, and take a break. Maybe I've just gone nokuro mode without knowing it.

By what you've said, it looks like an administration environment has been created where administrative actions can be hidden and obfuscated. It's ironic that the "show me the logs" reporting style is what some players get while it appears that others can have invisible fast-tracked customer service if an immortal thinks it wouldn't be "controversial." For example, how did Vassar get such quick approval to do what got Ardith in trouble while entire tribunals languished for need of an active immortal's input? How many prayers are ignored while certain characters get express green-lights and extensive amounts of immortal time and attention? That's not right.

I usually defend allegations of immortal corruption with vague references to the efficiencies of the aristocratic French salon system and the realities of diverse cultures of authority, but you've kind of shown that there's ways for imms to completely favor their friends without you ever knowing about it while players are left appealing and navigating a landscape made so much more rigid. What I once thought was the veneer and potential for fair treatment now seems to be like the thick establishment of plausible deniability for staff members.

You made a supreme court reference earlier, but I don't think you're in the position to be a decent supreme court chief justice when all your regional authorities don't *have to* keep records of their precedings.

By discussing rules and protocol, you've turned this into a Gameplay discussion, so I've moved it there.

Ironically I agree, provided the flames and troll-posts were taken out before moving it. Newbies don't need exposure to this level of tinfoil hat authority vice, and I can admit that.

Dulrik, I think my chief concern is that based on what you tell us .......... there is no system: all imortal reporting is voluntary while all mortal allegation reporting can be made mandatory with the words "show me the logs."

It's in a lot of places. I guess it is a bit of a catch22, but I'd suspect the driving factor of this doesn't come from forum administration techniques (if that were the case, league of legends would have a pristine community given it's harsh moderation on forums), but rather, the cross of IC and OOC seems to be the real crux of the issue.

People take things personally, allegations of cheating left and right (staff and players), sharing of 'secret information' and such. It's just painful to try to read a topic (where this topic came from) about a character that lived, and in it, a massive amount of mud-slinging. Whether it's righteous or ignoble isn't really the point I guess, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say if there was no way for individuals to talk out of character to each other, this mud would probably have significantly more players.

Right now it feels like I'm some outsider watching Jerry Springer and it takes away from the in-game atmosphere quite heavily, which I guess is the real problem - I guess I can always ignore people who seem determined produce their own talk show, though that begs the question why would I bother to stay around if I'm having to ignore 1/2 the community in a game built on community?

Consider what I see: in a thread about some character - it becomes all about the player, accusations of immortal cheating, thinly-veiled attacks by players on each other, and even staff gets involved in them.

I don't particularly see how any of this benefits anything. If anything it just reflects poorly on everyone and makes me wonder what kind of community I'm associating myself around.

Just saying.

My opinion is that, for good or for bad, accurately depicting the social community of the game to newbies is more appropriate and responsible than outruling the expression of the situation; in that case, certain unofficial forums would continue to foster the fester, and we'd have even more instances of players making afterlife threads which read, "My experience is not what it said on the tin." In other words, it's sort of truth in advertising, which could be a good thing if we were all better people.

It would be nice to see our community start moving to a more edifying group. If wishes were fishes, right?
