Wakizashi's are SO not rare, D. I can think of three buyabale wakizashi's off the top of my head, one of which has a REALLY nice mod to it.

That they are. And some players don't know the game upside down and sideways/know where all the ultra rare gear is. Others simply don't want to be PKd merely for a weapon. Carita was specialized in battlespears.. and the rapier for this reason. It was easy to get hands on good ones and friends were also very willing to hand one over.

Now onto the rest of the discussion. I'd be nice to see basic weapon subclasses of each type of weapon out there, if nothing else, so newbies could work on training their weapon skills. Basic whips and flails in particular seem overlooked, at least in some starting areas. Could this be checked out? We're not asking for quality here, just some quantity of low level weapons that aren't sword/dagger.

My bad. Wakizashi is not currently marked as a limited weapon. As such, it theoretically has drawbacks that average out its bonuses.

Theoretically.

And since theoretically has no bearing on damage, accuracy or speed, wakis will always get picked over rapiers. Every little bit helps survive in SK, so having weapons with such great differences between those three catagories means that only the best will be used, limiting character concepts... Unless you still want to be a fencing merc with rapier/wristbuckler who gets owned by NPCs.

Same applies to many weapon subtypes.

And finding some of the "bad" subtypes is harder than finding most of the "good" subtypes.
