Confusion/Chaos should not be PC spells. If it was I would walk into Inns and cast it on everyone and get everybody outlawed.

...says one of the ones who ruins things like confusion and hold person for the rest of us.

Go final strike a wedding.

Regarding spells: Spells like confusion and hold person are real spells and as such they can be resisted by high saving throws or disrupted by bashing or dishing out lots of damage on the offending NPC. Someday you might see some of these spells duration measured in rounds instead of ticks.

Are confusion and hold person, Shaman spells? I know that they are not Sorc or Priest spells.
Also, why is it that some NPC Priests and Sorcs have both of these spells in their arsenal but not in their classes spell tree?

Also, what about the whirling wind teleporting heal spell that certain NPCs have? Where does that come from?

I just died from a mage casting confusion yet again... Can someone take that crap out already? Or at the very least, make it stay in one class?

Yeah, why can't we die from a good old fashioned stab to the face?

Then change your tactics or change your target. The spell exists to make NPC spellcasters challenging instead of free XP.

One tactical possibility is to use a pet to attack the mage. Even if you're in the front row with the pet, the pet is far more likely to get confused than you are. And if you have either high damage output or good spell interrupts, even that shouldn't happen too often.

If you can't work out a reliable scheme, perhaps confusion-mages aren't a good matchup for you. Finding good matchups for your class and race is part of the tactics of levelling.

I hate relying on pets to bash. So much can go wrong with that. Especially if your charisma sucks.

True. Or you can do what little nooblet me did:

A wary male half-elf is loitering here.
A heavy imperial warhorse arrives in from the north.
fl war
A heavy imperial warhorse is massacred as you direct a large column of fire to strike him!

D'oh.

Krowe, keep in mind that although we do our best to be newbie-friendly in order to keep new players coming to the game, we're not here to cater to your bruises. Learn to adjust the way you play, if what you're doing isn't working, or maybe ask for advice on how to deal with a certain situation instead of telling the admin to change it because it's "overpowered."

SK wasn't made to be an easy game.

I think it would be safe to say that everyone has at least once been caught by the confusion/chaos spell. So, what? Everyone has also been killed by a weapon or damage spell. If you are continuously dying because of the effects of the confusion/chaos spell, then you are doing something tactically wrong. Those two spells are not overpowered by any stretch of the imagination (at least not overpowered for those specific NPCs). Like people have said already, get a pet, "o <pet> bash <bastard>".
