By other NPCs, you mean the other undead? That's kinda weird.

All other animates last 90 minutes, yep.

Necros have been wimped enough. Now that you see a few active and pking necros again...people gather their nerf bats and start swinging wildly.

Jardek, if there is in inference of equality, it only existed in your head.

Back on topic, I agree with Gilgon. Cap the number of animates. It will still allow them to make a decent band but no more excessively large armies. No player should be able to make an army.

I think what we really need is Dulrik to step in and tell us all what his "vision" for necros are. So we can either have our minds blown, or want to vomit all over our keyboards.

The counter to Necros is Holy word. It completely destroys, demolishes, annihilates and whatever "-ate" word you want to insert there no undead. Let's not forget that most poeple, granted I say most and not all, have access to Holy word in some shape or form be it a tribunal NPC, or a player character friend or just the fact that they may be a priest or pally themselves.

By themselves, wights, wraiths, skeletons etc aren't that much of a threat. Their power lies in numbers as they die incredibly easily. Unless you take the time to suit them up with armor, they die incredibly easy to just about anything. Anything with self defense, brawling etc will rip through them and even faster if they have a weapon. Then even if you do get armor, 2 holy words will almost guaranteed decimate your entire army, and a BoG can just off any undead pretty much instantly unless you outfit them with some sort of saves. It's because of these that undead work in superior numbers. Go look at zombie movies. Seriously, one shotgun blast can dispatch if not cut em in half. They're rotting flesh, easy to destroy, they just have a ton of buddies.

If this change does get proposed, then the Necro class, in my opinion won't be worth playing unless holy word and other such spells that do massive things and require high concentration are stopped to where you can't do "drive bys" with them. I believe something that strong you shouldn't be able to concentrate on and walk at the same time anyways as I said that any necro army falls to 2-3 holy words. All you have to do is just charge walk in and boom. Dead army and the necro will flee or die.

They also have weaknesses as unless you use an alternate form of animate dead, not only do you have concentration hits (granted small, but they DO add up and taunt absolutely WRECKS intelligence and concentration holds), they also have a timer. As stated Wraiths only last 45 minutes as compared to 90 minutes that other undead last. That's a time window that you have to keep track of, and know when to get out or your undead are gonna poof on you and you'll die. There are a lot of risks to playin the class that balance out the power they have. Also let's not mention that about 70-80% of the mud is automatically made their enemy upon creation.

You know, I actually think Algon's suggestion to limit the number of animates is a good one for two reasons.

1.) It prevents necros from running around with armies of 40+ undead and one rounding anything that crosses their path.

2.) It shifts focus back to the 'caster' aspect of the class. The fewer undead necromancers have to work with the more they'll start relying on their spells as support for their undead. Instead of the current implementation of "gather army; zap self; o all kill xxx". I can't remember the last time I actually saw a necromancer maledict someone in PK or attempt an FoD.

Something like 6-8 animates, would be acceptable I think. With that few animates, the necromancer will have the necessary concentration freed to then control a powerful undead from the necropolis, and cast maledicts in support of his minature army.

With so few undead though I think the chance for holy word to instant drop animates might need to be looked at. As it is sometimes holy word drops half the army if not more.
