coloring of weapons /= storyline. Sorry.

Been thinking about this because your point is valid and saying you just don't understand doesn't refute it. Here's how I think the equation should look. My double X-es might have something to do with it, but I think it's pretty true no matter who you are.

Story= narrative + color, flavor, and description

What do you think?

I think you've mentioned your gender one too many times for me to think of you as anything other than a sexless mass of assertion.

Story is nothing more than the chronological progression of conflict and resolution, action and reaction, cause and effect, decision and consequence. The flow of exchange creates meaning.

What accoutrement we add from there, when it works, deepens the significance of these elements. The hue of Hester Prynne's embroidery had purpose and added to the story. Little Orphan Annie's locket carried with it the hints of future events. The glimmer of the jewels stuffed into the coats of Anastasia's sisters makes their final moments all the more dramatic. The glove in Othello, the logs in The Tempest, the blood orb, the list goes on and on.

Whether your cute thigh-high boots coordinate with your lace-up corsette you found in some inn, however, seldom really adds any flavor other than the spice of lascivious hunger in your target, and the engraving on your dagger doesn't change the fact that its story is created, in this world, based on how you use it.

Any time I found something on Ealuriel that wasn't dark colored, that was just too awesome to not use, I cried a little inside.

Baldric brought up gender first... but maybe you're right about that.

I think costuming is important in story, but probably only because I read Sci Fi and fantasy, and not the more worthwhile classics you mention. Luke wouldn't be the same in a three piece suit as he is in his black PJ's when he rescues Leah.

The Fremen stillsuits lend as much to the story as does the curtain Polonius hid behind or the mask Salieri wore to the party in "Amadeus."

Costuming is cool when it conveys a theme or meaning, but can just turn into an exercise in flicking the pea.

It can't really lend anything if it isn't available.

In this game where descriptions are often ignored, equipment doesn't really strike me as a place to put much effort into characterization.

That being said.

A major factor in why I stopped enjoying my last RP character was that I couldn't find anything to wear.
