I mean, if that's really the best approach, I'm gonna make another rape-o-mancer.

I think the OP is fairly and justly pointing out that continued intimate socials lacking substance would be reported as the TOS violations they are.

In other words.

Would it kill you to buy her a drink first, or stick around to spoon? Christ.

Haha yeah, or at least send a telegram with some anonymous roses or something.

As pointed out in another thread, rule violations like these would be very subjective to the IMMs. If the OP is really offended and concerned, follow the standard reporting procedures. Log it, send it to Achernar/Dulrik and wait for a response. If people make a big deal enough about grope and goose, simply remove them as socials and make it black and white that no sexual activity is allowed in SK period.

Personally I think the grope and goose socials are more a comical thing and not something to be taken offense to. If you're that offended by something like that, play a male character or find another game to play, because you're going to be offended by more than just that.

Remember, we're psychologically assuming that the OP is truly a woman and truly offended by this without any solid empirical evidence to indicate that said assumptions are true. Just to make it clear to the OP, if you are a woman and truly offended, follow the normal procedures for reporting rule violations, because I don't want comical grope and goose socials removed over this.

I had written a rather preachy response against Dayamin but decided against posting it.

The socials in question should NOT be removed. But the players in question should stop using them on the character in question. A player has expressed concern and for their enjoyment of the game, they should be respected.

Simple as that.

QFT

Instead of logging and reporting it, which would lead to possible deletion, which would bring, at least to me, extreme...unenjoyment. I think bringing it up like this gives those players whose characters might have been deleted a second chance at keeping their characters. We don't want only the offended to enjoy their gameplay. Giving the offenders warning like this is, in my mind, better than just deleting their characters. As I said in my first post, good for you OP. :D

And as I said in reply to evena, she said something along the lines of "socials aren't the bad thing, players are" which made me think of "Guns don't kill people. People do." With this warning, those people who used the gun against OP now know that OP doesn't want to get shot with those guns anymore. Gun and guns referring to socials and naughty emotes, just so we are completely clear.

This is a nice idea but the golden rule has no effect on trolls. If I want to play a virginity ninja, all this thread suggests is that this is a great environment to do it in.

Perhaps if players could have certain socials removed. Hmm..

You say 'Uhm lol I'm drunk RPing hahaha.'
An old male god sighs to himself.
An old male god says to you 'You leave me no choice then.'
Your grope privileges have been revoked!
Your goose privileges have been revoked!
Your pemote privileges have been revoked!
Your pant privileges have been revoked!
Your bcatch privileges have been revoked!

You know as well as I do that this would require a rewrite of far to much code. You and your dreams Grep.

SK Character: Briner, Senach, Myson, others.
Instead of an old male god, make it a white knight.

Viltrax's response from over a year ago that makes this thread essentially a moot point:

Viltrax wrote:
grep, whilst I think your heart is in the right place I think the socials have been around long enough that if there was a real problem of the kind you're describing we would have heard about it by now.

I can't speak whether they originated way back from the actual codebase that SK started out from, but at the very least they're 10 years old speaking personally (err... I mean their existance... yeah). It's just as likey that they existed since before the MUD went public in 1996.

If you don't like them don't use them. If your character is mistreated by another character in the game using one of the built-in socials, in 99% of cases the in-game roleplay will take care of it. Because if they were going to use a built-in social inappropriately, chances are they would have use the open EMOTE command to do the same act anyway, if the social wasn't there.

Socials as a whole are a good starting point for many players who perhaps can't type very fast (I'll skip the one-hander jokes) or perhaps newbies who haven't yet learnt about EMOTE or its recent cousin, PEMOTE. Many players throughout the game's history have chuckled at the classic faux pas that socials can spark (stroke your chin while pondering someone lately, hmm?).

An affront or impertinent act could easily result in aggressive confrontation for the protagonist; other socials will generate other roleplay results. An annoying character spamming inappropriate socials will be ignored by the majority, and soon enough dealt with by game admins (though get a log of it if you can, as logs always help us to investigate such things).

Thanks for your concern though. :drunk:

So, to the OP, deal with it IC. If it can't be effectively dealt with IC, follow the proper reporting channels. The IMMs have stated plenty of times to me personally as well as on the forums that they're not aggressive about deleting characters. The IMMs will most likely contact the offender in this situation to determine the proper course of action. What I was trying to emphasize is taking it to the forums here is not the most effective course of action, ESPECIALLY if the offender is not registered on the forums or does not read them.

Also, as it's clearly apparent on here, most people hide behind an anonymous identity and are generally not concerned with any specific complaints directed at them if they're as unscrupulous as the offender in question. Since there was no description of the offender's character, they cannot be ostracized by the more scrupulous members of the SK community. So, the complaints essentially only get supported, but the offender will most likely continue their actions until they're actually reported to an IMM.

After being here for more than 8 years now, I've learned that following a rational course of action set out in the rules is significantly more effective than becoming emotionally distraught on the forums. The reason why my post before this one was so harsh (minus the comical first sentence) was because it appeared that the OP was looking more for attention and fake emotional support rather than actually accomplishing something. Every other rule violation that people complain about here are met with the same response: Handle it IC, or contact the IMMs directly. This thread should have originated in GD anyway.

lol gd? you're silly

Dayamin makes the point that there's no such thing as the golden rule here. Either grief those who grief you -- treat them as if they treated you how they wanted to be treated -- or use the standard weapon of revert, block, ignore.

In other words, at the end of the day, when it comes to what you can count on, no one cares if you're having fun, and many people in fact enjoy it when they know that, because of them, you aren't; one look at the forums should tell you this is a game mostly played by trolls and do-nothings.

It would seem most of the people who are interested in the fun of others are promoted to immortal status and removed from the playlist, or are quickly transmuted. I suppose I'm as much proof of that as anyone else.
