I'd also like to see a deviation from the standard scavenger/errand boy quests or the ones with simple answers. The one in Cain Techt and the one with Spynt are both good examples of the types I'm talking about.

Actually Jardek, I never said that I don't want more quests in the game. I simply pointed out that there is no need to complain about the lack of suck *types* of quests, since there are already quests of the said types in the game.

As about your usual effort to cheapen the conversation, good work once again. I am so certain you will enjoy the new quests to be built... through the forums

There are tons of quests in the game. At one time, there was a mandate to include at least one XP-rewarding quest in each area. The new areas I've come across the last couple years adhere to this policy. So, even if you, the player, know lots of quests, there's may be at least a few you just haven't come across yet or which your previous char combos weren't suited to solve. I know more quests than most, and with my latest char I discovered at least three "new" ones I'd never done before. And with each new angel comes a new area and a new quest.

The style of quest is primarily limited by imagination, though some may be limited by code. It just so happens that fetch quests are super easy to code and are popular among builders who like to encourage chars to visit all the far-flung corners of their areas. It's also a fact that Wert was responsible for a large number of quests, as he was saddled with retrofitting tons of areas with quests as best he could. I like Wert's quests: Lots of riddles, but also lots of fetching (primarily from a certain Vaerlain barkeep and any number of Craeftilin trinkets) and many similar in style. You'll also see a lot of the *follow* type of quests, all more or less the same format. Almost all of these are well-suited to their areas, and Wert did a great job cranking them out in a short period of time.

In my opinion, what it comes down to is the iniative of the builder. Some builders are better than others at scripting. Some builders understand better than others the limitations of scripting. Some builders prefer to concentrate on crafting beautiful and thematic descriptions rather than getting sucked into the mechanics of scripting. And some builders choose other tasks for their limited time than wallowing around in scriptland.

If, however, you have some brilliant idea for a modification to an existing quest or for some great new quest, including "open-ended" or "math" quests or whatever it is you think SK needs, I suggest you detail the entire thing and email or PM it to a sympathetic IMM (eg: Achernar, Thuban, Algorab, or the elusive but incredibly gifted builder, Sadr). Speaking from experience, sometimes all that's lacking is inspiration. Unfortunately, sometimes it's time.

Peace,
Bux

Bux I agree with you immensely, and throughout this forum I have kind of seen a new light to this subject, but can you not agree that most quests are hard to find? I would enjoy if questgivers actually asked me for help...instead of leaving a clue word....

There's a few that do that, too.

Err...I think ive basically hit all points and all counterpoints have been made...continue talking...but for now I have nothing else to say really...but I think the general consesus is that We could use more different types of quests...but there are still alot of quests out there.

This is one of those subjective things like "which class is best" or "why are dwarves so overpowered". Not only does quest difficulty vary, but some players are going to find them easier than others. Also, the more experience you have doing quests, the easier new or unknown quests will be.

Every quest should be solvable by someone with no OOC knowledge of said quest. I would guess that this is true of nearly all current quests, though as an old vet and former KD, I'm not exactly the best person to ask for the newbie perspective. I will say that I scratched my head over at least a couple of the "new" quests I recently tackled with my current char, though I managed to solve them all eventually, without OOC help.

Peace,
Bux

There are some 'quests' I know of only cos I've been in a group and seen them done, and short of going through my log and sifting through what happened, I'm still not convinced I'd get a full picture of what I am suppose to do. It involves a complex series of hoops to get into an area. The frustration comes in trying to ask people where they learned, or how to do such things. I have a couple of things like this to be working out.

Other times I seem introduced to new things by someone. I'd like to know how they discovered it, so I can go back and 'rediscover'/uncover the mystery on my own. Unfortunately I am again greeted with simply 'I heard a story,' and trying to dig 'from who' or 'where' or even 'in which book' gets me nowhere.

I guess it would be nice to see various NPCs scattered about areas who have perhaps needs in other areas (not just their own), or have heard stories, who could trigger some interest/insight into gaining such knowledge in an IC way which does not rely soley on another character's knowledge.

I find it quite strange at this point in the game (levelwise) despite wanting to explore, how precious little of the game I even know (or have even heard about). At least my character is young (overall) and I know I have a lot of time ahead of me yet.

I wasn't really sure if I wanted to post anything here because I'm not currently prepared to give much detail. However, there's a lot of work going on in immortal-land right now regarding some new kinds of quests and improving the quest system in general.

In the meantime, you can visit the quest page of the website to see an up-to-date list of all areas that have a quest.
