You don't punish the character. You punish the player, for evading the Golden Rule... if such is warranted.

That got tossed and turned in my head...

... maybe final strike really isn't that bad, compared to killing someone, junking their stuff and walking away unscathed.

hmpf.

No one suggested this at all, or anything close to this.

My suggestion was to make it IMPOSSIBLE to delete directly after FSing.

Now, to do FS as you're suggesting, you have to shorten the casting time dramatically.

I misread one of Jennbo's comments and thought she ment it as a auto delete key. Even if you made it so someone couldn't delete themselves afterwards, they could just not log in anymore to get around it.

I read the first half of this thread, then I wanted to get out the popcorn and watch the catfight.

This may be a terrible idea, and if so feel free to shoot it down.

But what if Final Strike was only available for casting to GM's (I don't know if this is the case now) and only available to characters that had been around for at least six months of real time and some preset amount of hours in game? (My character has played around 300 hours so far, I think, so something like 300-500 hours, maybe?)

ICly this time requirement could be justified as "Why would I teach you the most dangerous spell in a sorceror's arsenal? I barely know you!" And OOCly it would ensure that final strike cost the caster as much as those he/she cast it on. They'd be giving up at least six months effort and a GMed character, if they didn't want to roleplay it out after.

And I would like to see the help files on the spell more closely adhered to. It should be used in a combat situation, where the danger is not theoretical, but real, and where the sorceror has more than good cause to try to wipe out their enemy. If not, there should be not just roleplay to get out of it, but a significant passage of time without resurrection being an option.

I think Liri's idea is fine, but I doubt they'll do it.

And for everyone jumping my [REDACTED], I invite you to roleplay because you care for the integrity of the game, instead of roleplaying just to get something done. -That- is why I got mad.
