I've had characters starting off telling GM's to shove it before. Grow a pair, it works.

With Finney back... Let me say he is already in fine form on the fourms. o_O If his characters do half what he has already done on this thread, we are all doomed.

I've never had a problem with too many people rushing to mentor my new characters. Typically, I have the opposite problem- I could count on one hand the number of players who have ever contacted one of my newly created characters and offered any kind of mentorship assistance since the system was put into the game. Otherwise, any "mentor" assistance I've received has been from my character seeking out high level characters and asking for (cheap) training. And the quality of RP typically involved in those events is usually pretty low.

I recently created a few characters and there has been one common factor for all of them: shortly after creating, I was pestered by what I consider overly aggressive mentors. I understand mentors are probably very helpful for new players, but as a veteran, I don't need any help.

However, short of telling these mentors to bugger off OOC, it's like trying to get rid of a door-to-door salesman. I can only assume this is because additional stat trains have been tied to the mentor system as an incentive.

I am fine with that and I don't think there should be any drastic changes. It would be nice, though, if during the creation process we were offered a toggle or opt in/out question for the mentor system. If you answer no to “Are you new to Shattered Kingdoms?” then add another question inquiring if you wish to participate in the mentor system. If you answer yes to “Are you new to Shattered Kingdoms?” then you would automatically be opted in as these are the players that would really need the help.

Consider yourself lucky. I have to actively go search for mentors to get anybody to pay any heed to my characters.

I also tended to ignore the tells I got while I was a mentor capable character unless there was a specific request for a mentor.

I am a supporter of the mentor system, I had great help with my new chars, when I spawned in the realms, had three people offer to help back then, I figure if they are willing to help a newbie like myself, I will offer the same when I am at that point, I ask everyone once if they would like assistance or a person I can direct them to, if I get ignored I move on or I get a no thank you, Im not pestering, I am just trying to help the people of my ic kingdom make themselves better in game, ask the players of Vyla and Phoebe.

This thread is the worst thread.

Stop being such a drama [REDACTED], Finney. Most people just make a new thread on GD when they want people to fawn over them playing again.

or do I just update the word censor with 'cajones'

Youuuuu don't have the cajones, broheim. That's a legitimate word with many, varied uses.

I really am excited to just sit back and watch finney wtfpwn the realms, with a certain couple chars as targets. This has the potential to be epic.

I think the mentor system is great. I always disliked that you could be a grandmaster whatever master all your skills and pass on nothing to lowbies.. Not to mention, it gives higher level players more reason to interact with lower level ones besides screaming at them and sticking a knife in their back.
