My opinion on the matter (for what it's worth), is that initially the situation needs to be handled IC first, player to player second and then imm involvement third.

What I mean by this is, express, IC, that your character doesn't like/approve of/etc that sort of behavior. If the player of the other character is in even the smallest way respectful of your character, they will stop. If not, step two. Express via OOC tell that you nor your character appreciate such behavior and that if a compromise cannot be met you will be reporting the situation to the Imm staff. If they are still being uncooperative about it report them with a log attached.

I personally dislike my female characters being groped without knowing the character doing the groping well enough to know what it means to them. With that said, everyone makes mistakes( plays drunk or otherwise) and there are a lot of very valid character concepts that act in an ethically inappropriate way. The key though is giving the other character a chance to react.

For example just emote first, "Maraigh reaches out with a clawing hand towards the pearly-eyed deep elven woman's chest."
This gives me the opportunity to either allow the follow up groping social or to put in my own emote of "Nosephthyki slaps the deep-elven man's hand away before kneeing him in the happy sacks."

You can still have your dirty character act how they normally would and the person who doesn't want it has a way out.

P.S. I care if people are having fun, grep :(

Dayamin makes the point that there's no such thing as the golden rule here. Either grief those who grief you -- treat them as if they treated you how they wanted to be treated -- or use the standard weapon of revert, block, ignore.

The golden rule is always in effect. I've never interpreted it as being a rule that translates to innate benevolence.

I seem to recall that happening in the reverse order to how you describe it here. <.<

Although happy sacks is spot on...

Should they register, and their characters have an aura so all know what they are? :o

Detect aura?

I think Detect Disease would be more apt.

I prefer...

c 'detect deviancy'

You start to concentrate.

You can now sense deviants.

That wasn't even close to the point I was making Grep. If rules are going to be referenced, then following the proper course of action to report broken rules should be followed as well. I personally don't want to see a complaint like that in the Gameplay forum because it dissuades new players from coming to a game if it appears there's unrestrained sexual harassment and also appears like nothing is done about it. I don't want us to look ineffectual at resolving an issue, because there's not a damn thing I can do to help the player of Iria, especially via the forums, and that frustrates the hell out of me.

The only thing I can say to the masked offender, if they even read this message and care about what I have to say, is cut it out. You're not making things enjoyable around here and creating undesirable unrest amongst the more reputable and longstanding players. If you don't stop what you're doing, you're going to create enough unrest that it's going draw attention and eventually get you banned. Hopefully that helps the situation and further clarifies my position. I'm sorry there's nothing more I can do to help.

That's... that's like me saying I don't want you to complain about the all-you-can-rape sunday brunch buffet while we have company over because they might get the impression that we run an all-you-can-rape buffet on sundays.

Our powerlessness is only overcome in two ways: by returning the grief in character, or by exposing the grief out-of-character. I'd much rather stir up an angry NPC of players than bother PVPing my way out of an RP problem. Mostly because I can't PVP. :P

I mean, it's not like you can walk around the forums with the black eyes and hickeys of your mistreatment like you could in the real world. Awareness requires more bluntness.

Deception is bad, mmkay? We shouldn't have to con people into playing.

Everyhing else you said I pretty much agreed with.

My caracter, being the party animal, anarchist, trouble maker he is wandered in exile one day, to have an elf look at him and say. "If you harbor malintent, best to leave now" Without even knowing me. So, like the person he is, he got on him, making the elf seem the wrong, before he randomly groped someone and word of recalled. Hence, Sexual Harassment. Sorry to the player of Iria if they thought it was innapropriate, but there is an easy way of avoiding this. Do not play a female. Many do not take this game very seriously, I do not kill people for no reason, I insight RP, you could have easily found out my characters name in game and told me to seek consent before doing it ever again, which is just silly in a power play MUD.
