If anything, I wonder if this won't have the opposite effect. By removing the "slap on the wrist," Dulrik has effectively nerfed the IMMs ability to fire a warning shot. Solid-headed IMMs will be far less likely to fire off a curse where minor correction is needed.

While I don't mind seeing a "penalize severe" option in effect for IMMs, I'm a little sad that it comes at the cost of having the original tick drain removed.

I'm sure they can come up with ways to do a slap on the wrist punishment. Slay comes to mind. :drunk:

I don't think that's true any more. From all I can tell, curses and rewards are both on the same timer, and only one can be applied to a character per day.

I'm sorry, there is something I don't quite understand...

Granted, I'm not currently playing, since I got sucked in other stuff but...

This is a thread posing arguments against a higher penalty when caught cheating, misbehaving and generally, breaking the rules?

Really now? And... it's also 4 pages long?

Sheesh, and here I was, thinking that it's more important a) not to cheat (from the player's perspective and b) discuss the existence, if any of rp before handing out punishments (from the Immstaff). Besides these two points, if you're caught cheating, you deserve to be punished in a way that WILL make an impact.

I don't -have- to agree with this change. It's as natural as is breathing.
I do not agree with handing out punishments without at least some minimal investigation.
I do not agree with whining about the punishment's size. It's punishment for crying out lout, it's supposed to be a [REDACTED]!

Jvj, you are worried that someone is going to get 5 level curse for bad rp or silly description?
I don't recall ever reading in the punishments thread that so-and-so was cursed for silly description. Or blah blah was cursed by Nashira for having a bad day. Or Dulrik was stalkin Peso so Peso farted north and got a curse. There is usually an underlying reason. It seems to me if you are worried about this change, you are worried that you might be cursed.

If it's for my b-remark up there, I'll bravely weather it, for calling it what it is ;)

I have always found this [REDACTED], that a player cannot be rewarded more than once a day, yet we can eat tons of curses. It has always annoyed me when I have played a paragon holding character when I would get the message that someone has been penalized or rewarded that day already.

There actually is less incentive to try to gain xps through roleplaying than through grinding xps on NPCs.

The only time I ate a curse in my entire time of playing was when I played my elf paladin Alleli, and I ran into the Rumbling Zakami right after logging on, saw two deep-elves in the inn, and a horde of undead. I murdered the deep-elves cuz I totally thought one of them was a necromancer and they were breaking Zhensh law. I did notice that the undead didn't fade away after I brutally murdered the trouble causing deep-elves, and then the next thing I knew I got a message saying that I had been cursed by the gods. I was like, wtf is going on?

By all appearances I had done the right thing, but I did not know that I walked in and ruined some imm's stupid RP which caused some deep-elves to eat [REDACTED]. I think also that being docked a full level as a "minor" penalty is a little severe. I find the wording of it, "cheating" to get around the penalty to be a little silly too.

I do think I would like to see small rewards give half a level of xps, and medium rewards give a full level of xps though. Though, I am sure that will never happen.

I'm not sure if I find the reference appropriate :) However - yes, I think this is fine. 1 level isn't much at all these days. 5 levels for doing something tremendously stupid/illegal isn't all that much either. You can easily recover from if it happens with a char actually want to play.

I agree that it should be made clear what penalties go with whjch offenses.
