Anything that keeps you from getting bashed for a few rounds is not 'trash.' Hellions are not sorcerors and can/should be able to put up a fight in the time that it takes for their dominate to go down. Do you want your pet to be able to solo a player as a hybrid-warrior class?

Less NPC wars, please.

Eh, as it stands now, a dominate isn't "soloing" anything.

I actually had a cloth armor priest turn one of my dominates against me with remove compulsion, and then proceeded to trounce him, as I had a dominate nipping at my heels. Also I was a deep-elf, and the dominate had a cold iron pitchfork. He just didn't do...anything.

Then I may suggest you reconsider the dominate you're using, or the weapon you give him.

I feel that no, they shouldn't solo anything. But they can and do put a hurt on if you find the right ones, even if they can be killed in solo combat.

The best use I found for domination is to get a sorcerer NPC to shrink/enlarge items.

Here's my caveat though: Hellions are pure ego, and talk about having the biggest dick. As it stands they're really nothing better than a 2nd row support class. Personally I'd rather be in favor of them losing domination altogether in support of something else. It's a far easier choice for the player of hellions to join the Midnight Council or Black Hand for a beefy trib NPC over the Crucible. Especially if you're a player that wants to do solo PK. You can't run around in the front row as a hellion like an [REDACTED], and that is just really disappointing. I mean with all the blustering of giving hellions the parry skill, it really didn't help at all.

They get heavy armor, they get tank skills, but they just can't do it. It's sad. Poor hellions.

And no I'm not advocating that they get sanctuary, or armor. I just wish they got a skill called rescue. :(

But then I have successfully argued against myself with that, which is why I've never posted it up until now.

Rescue could be the hellions way of proving his superiority to another member of his party by pulling him our of the thick of it and demolishing the opponent his comrade was to weak to finish off.

I always thought of hellions as necros/rogues. Paladins have a far better tanking ability, hellions do massive damage. Maybe that is the trade off and the need for dominate.

To use the current combat code to help hellions. Is there any decent rogue NPCs so that you can have them backstab and then you cleave?

Hellions don't do any more damage than paladins. The only thing they get that's different is an first strike attack in cleave. Depending on the opponent it may, or may not be worth it. Against a barbarian: useless, against a buffed opponent: moderate, against an unbuffed opponent: excellent.

How about HellFire verus Bolt of Glory?

Another topic.

Either way hellions seem like an oddly matched hybrid class. Paladins come of clergy/warrior

Hellfire does increased damage against two races, Bolt of glory only against one. Hellfire can be used against any opponent, the number of opponents bolt of glory can be used against is limited.

Both classes have their sweet spots though, but I just think it is silly that the RP of the hellion is "holy [REDACTED], I am so god damn tough, I stick my dick in the rotating blades of a lawnmower for fun, and it breaks the god damn lawnmower."

Hellions are good at what they do: debuffing, cleaving, and intimidating, but they're not really *that* tough. Domination is a kind of, "meh" ability. I'd rather just group up with a PC merc, or join a tribunal for a meat shield rather than rely on the so-so ability of domination. The spell is subpar at best.

I will agree hellion rp is rather... off but I think the same of a paladin.

Why is this presented as an either/or decision? You can have tribunal meat and a dominate at the same time.
