I actually do like the idea of alignments being (SLIGHTLY) more flexible. Basically a change would require Imm intervention, HOURS of RP with verifying logs of the events that led up to the change; and it should be impossible to change immediately from Light to Dark or Dark to Light. They'd have to go Grey first. Obviously the consequences could be extreme. A follower of Algorab who dared to leave The Terror would likely be hunted down by (the few) people who still worship him, assuming he doesn't take a direct interest himself. Likewise Alshain may be peeved that one of his isn't acting according to the teachings of his faith. For a Hellion/Paladin this would be especially dangerous, and may even amount to an imm enforced punishment. A Priest could also find himself in some pretty hot water. There is a lot of RP potential there, though it seems unlikely to ever come about.

The major problem with making alignment changing is then every man woman and child wants to have a story of how they where tempted by the dark side or saved by the light. In the end you end up with no one to do the saving or the damning and no consistency.

If change of alignment was implemented it would have to use loyalty tokens with a cost at creation to have the option to do it and then a cost as it happened. This attempt to make sure that only good RPers attempted it and that they where maintaining a good RP well doing it, it would also limit how far the swing could go.

When I first looked at the fixed alignments I thought they where bad but the longer you play the better they become, for one it saves you from having to deal with a deep elf swashbuckler with scimitars by the name of tizird.

The only thing I dislike about fixed alignments is people knowing ICly they are fixed. Many players do not entertain the idea of peace till we recover a bit, which I think is healthy for the game as it would perhaps limit PKing into deletion. That really is a player issue of wanting to win and never be tricked which is hard to give up and RP the fool from time to time for the fun of everyone.

As a experiment I would be really interested in what would happen to SK if you took out know alignment and detect aura having only Imms be able to snoop someones alignment perhaps be able to use detect aura on people looking to inductions into factions under a scripted NPC.

Not necessarily. I'm always happy to be the corruptor/savior. We have some good RPers on SK, just show a little bit of faith in the players, and imms, and don't let the trolls confuse things.

There are so many corrupters it`s not even funny. Practically the entire [certain gloomy cabal] is based around that idea, to say nothing of the mind games played by the [certain jester-themed cabal]. I've had plenty of light-aura`d characters try to redeem my evil characters too.

I think Cendre was hands-down the best corruptor I ever saw. How many Palidins were blemished for creepy tentacle MUD sex?

Unfortunately it usually works like this

Hellion: *Steps one foot into Exile.*

Paladin: *Looks at Hellion to see what kind of loot he has, then casts detect alignment*

Hellion: "Oh. Hello. I am Squire Naughty Van Teutonic, apprentice in service of Sir Scary McBaddy.

Palidin: "Yeah? Tell him I said..." *casts Spear of Faith*

Hellion Ghost: "Hey what was that all about?"

Paladin:"Shut up, can't you see I'm busy looting you for your gold, potions, and iron armor? Oh, and you should mend your ways, or I'll do this again."

(Based loosely off actual events)

I'll bet you never get picked for jury duty, do you?

If I got picked for jury duty in a world in which I knew being a shadow of a doubt that Alshain existed I'm sure I'd vote to acquit. This isn't new York.
