Priests can tank pretty good in first row till flamestrike with store bought low level light armor. They can even heal themselves.

Yeah, with my vetran priest, ...

When you got Spear of Faith at veteran, you changed from being a primarily melee-damage class to a primarily spell-damage class. Assuming your alignment allows you to damage these casters with the spell, you should be toasting them.

Be behind a pet. It's good if you can get a reach weapon, but don't worry if you can't. Just spam Spear of Faith. You're going to be doing so much damage that the caster is very unlikely to get Confusion off before he dies. Even if he does, he'll hit your front-row pet, not you.

Did the low level maul get taken out of the game?

Yes, and a store filled with iron griffon weapons got put in the same city. I assume it's an inum shortage that caused the change. Yet even as a griffon enthusiast, I think some of the worse griffon weapons should go so people can get their polemaces back.

And if you are a cloth priest?

No faith priests are light armour. You shouldn't get a faith until you get Flame strike or so if you want to be a twink.

Carestius's point still stands. If you wait to get into a faith just because you don't want to deal with cloth armor, then shame on you. I can understand a char that has a hard time finding someone to induct them but if someone is a preist in SK they should be finding their faith as early as possible (there are legitimate rp excuses to not find a faith early, though. Not many but there are).

magical vestment+protection+ a decent shield.

That'll protect you good even if you are a cloth priest.
