I think that sounds like a fantastic idea

I do have some ideas to make titles potentially more meaningful. The idea is that certain titles would be reserved, such as titles that a faith or faction picks for its leader. I also had the idea that certain quests could have an associated title that you only gain access to on completion.

With this idea, you would still have the ability to type in custom titles, but if you tried to use a reserved title, it wouldn't be allowed. There would be an alternate title command syntax to view and set the reserved titles to which you have gained access. I think this gives more meaning to titles and also provides another type of reward for doing quests.

A great idea Dulrik. One of several changes that would be cool to see in game.

I believe titles should be optional. If a person chooses to list his class race cabal or religion, they do so knowing that others will see it obviously. Sometimes people choose not to have titles to hide their affiliations, race, class etc. Sometimes people just don't care. But it is their choice. It always has been.

Forcing only certain people to have titles is limiting to RP. How could I have been overlord of the GoA and Knightlord of the Empire at the same time if the title command didn't allow me to?

I'm not saying it's a bad idea necessarily, because I don't know how it would be implemented. I simply advise caution.

Alright, I got the general gist of this thread after reading the first post and a skimming through the rest of it (read flaming) and the idea is half great, half rubbish.

I think someone's already said that titles should be optional, and I agree. It's up to the player whether or not they want a title and it should remain that way. However, while I hate to admit that more imm influence is needed anywhere in the game, I do also agree that it wouldn't be a bad idea for them to start policing titles LOOSELY. If they come across someone with a completely and ridiculously outrageous and inappropriate title, go ahead and hell them until they change it or whatever.

I'm only scared that someone with a questionable title that does actually relate to the character and is appropriate, though not immediately recognizably so, will be punished.

Why a fire? I'd prefer death in a airplane.

If titles are forced then the same method should be done like when a new player creates a character (New to Pyrathia) although if they are not new it's a blank title, perhaps make set titles per class and having it show up when they reach a certain lvl?

I don't like the idea of forced titles. Titles that can only be set if you meet certain prerequisites aren't a bad idea.

Just forget the mandatory titles.
