How about failing a backstab makes the rogue tripped, of course setting them prone. As an added effect upon failure the trip gives a chance for them to be automatically disarmed by the fall. I don't think this is a great fix, I just wanted to throw out an idea.

Ways to avoid rogue deaths

Keep your pulse up, stone skin, Iron guard, Images, etherealform, invis, auto follow, wimpy 100, pet behind you, Using a reaching weapon (or your charm using one if you are a sorc) to aim at the rogue if he's in second row so that he cannot circle stab, etherealform(release eth if you see a rogue enter with it), etc etc.

Can also not log on, more effective way. But regardless, one shooting skills need removed or nerfed.

That also means cleave and charge and headbutt. I know it is a spell, but get rid of bolt of glory instakill v. undead (Since it is really hard for undead to resist w/out incredible preparation)?

I have to say that turning teleport into blink would be interesting.

What does this have to do with backstabbing?

The whole idea of ability to one-two-hit-kill has to be revamped or addressed if you're going to nerf the damage of backstab. See Chemhound's comment above.

How about simply decrease Backstab's chance to hit, significantly?

Comparing the WIN power of backstab to the WIN power of persuade. Persuade fails all the time, resulting in tedious, draining battles with NPCs that cast spells. Persuade is the ultimate utility of a bard and comes at the highest level. Dual backstab is the ultimate utility of a rogue and comes at the highest level.

Ergo, make the chance to land persuade a lot higher. :D

Or make the double back stab fail as much as persuade.

Adding in a heavy failure chance to a skill that has instant-killing capability is NOT a good way to balance things.
