Domination is a kind of, "meh" ability. I'd rather just group up with a PC merc, or join a tribunal for a meat shield rather than rely on the so-so ability of domination. The spell is subpar at best.

Why is this presented as an either/or decision? You can have tribunal meat and a dominate at the same time.

Tribunal meat is like steak. domination is like spam.

Domination is a built-in [redacted #]-ish extra hit points for a hellion, and a temporary immunity to bash. Even if you only think of it like that, it's insanely powerful. I just don't quite get why it's suddenly worthy of complaint. I KNOW there are some worthwhile dominates out there still that can atleast do a little damage.

What he is saying, the costs and restrictions of Domination is not worth the use. It would be better for him to join a tribunal. Lower cost involved.

When you get around to playing a hellion, I'm sure your opinion will change. The only dominate I really felt had any value was the swashbuckler from Menegroth. And then only when I tucked him in the third row to keep him from dying, and I only used it for taunt.

In fact it was just about the only time domination came into play in killing anybody on my last hellion, when I killed Peso's rogue using it. =P

And if you're not a deep-elf, domination is just brutal, just god damn brutal on your concentration.

I found domination to be absolutely crucial on my human MC hellion.

The shame of things is that since then, domination has received two huge nerfs: One in that you can't order stances anymore, and another in that you have to put +10 int on swash dominates in order to taunt successfully. Ordering stances is the bigger hit of the two, but being able to taunt people is pretty boss in a lot of scenarios.

Even with those nerfs, dominate is far from a useless skill. It's very nice to have an actual NPC in front of you to allow you to cleave and not get completely destroyed in the cleave lag. Sure, they aren't going to do any damage, but that's because they're level 35.

It made sorcs extremely powerful, and also made tribs extremely powerful. It was the easiest way to nerf both at the same time. Honestly, now that the stance defensive nerf is in it probably isn't that bad.
