I'm not saying that hoarding does not happen. I know hoarders are out there. I just don't think that they are wrecking anything. That is all.

Sure, if you were to kill Ardith you'd probably find a mountain of loot. If you are into PK and you are successful you end up with loot.

You also will need loot if you are going to be successful so people who want to be good at pk will also try to gather good stuff.

I just don't see anything wrong with any of that. That is just the way things are.

Actually as Ardith pointed out he is hoarding so that others can't have it to use against him. This does detract from the game because it puts all of the power in a few players and when Ardith retreats/words out for the millionth time hard to nail him down long enough to actually kill him. Also, I know there are RL reasons, Alaric isn't on long enough and when he is, he forms a gank squad trashes Taslamar, Ardith flees or logs out, and nothing really changes. It hampers people from becoming part of the pk elite if all of the twink gear is hoarded by a few individuals. I am fine with people having multiple weapons, armor and what not. What I am not fine with is having vast multiples of limited equipment that just sit in their inventory as tiny objects. There truly is an oligarchy of pk, and it is immeasurably hard to get into that oligarchy due to the few hoarders of limited eq.

My first character was a Quae.

If I can learn to pk, anybody can.

That is all.

I killed ardith once. So its not impossible. Just highly unlikely. But other than that if you are basing your builds on scripted gear, you are already screwing up. Dont try to rely on something that is a perk. Expand your thought process and focus on doing what gou can with what you have.

Let's try an experiment. Sargas, would you please load Muktar 15 pieces of gear of his choice? Then we can look back in 2 weeks to see if he still sucks at this game. My guess is that the answer will be a resounding yes.

While I'm actually all for removing scripted items and streamlining enchants, I am firmly anti-stupidity. The reason removing scripted items is good is that it takes focus/time off loot gathering and puts it more on characters, allowing more time for non-gear-based interaction. The shmuck patrol who uses not being able to hold onto good loot as an excuse for sucking is still going to suck if loot gets nerfed... wannabe tough guys will probably die /more/ because real tough guys won't have to waste time gearing up their allies.

patty, I know I suck at PK and I have no problem admitting it, and most likely always will. Even if Ardith was in iron and I had all of the leet lewt. It does turn off newbies who can become decent pkers but don't because Ardith is actually a good pker without the lewt and but with people like him with all of the lewt though, makes it very hard to crack into the pk level of people like him.

Note: Don't mean to pick Ardith out exclusively, but he is just a good example.

A newbie with phat loot is like arming a lemming with a missle launcher. I still see a clff in the future. A newb to pk needs to learn mechanics first then attatch gear to it.

I'm not saying it should be given to them, it just needs to be available. Right now pk is the Ardith's Yankees vs the Mariners. Mariners win every once in a while but when the Yankees are hoarding all of the talent, hard for lesser teams to compete.

I thought there was already a modifier in the de-hoard code to give a greater chance of stealing any equip-able item that you don't have equipped. But even if there isn't and I were to add it, that's only going to affect people once per month. The dehoard code is more about putting stuff back into circulation from people who don't really care to re-acquire it. Someone like Ardith is just going to get it back the next time he logs on.

Modify that small section of code to be on a weekly timer. Keep certain equipment on the list, then once a week check the amount of time it was actually equipped, that way there is a faster way to dehoard. Anything on that list will require time equipped to keep. Hastens the current dehoard code and modifies it to protect one set of gear for one PC. Mains get more air time and ALTs will face quicker dehoarding. Code is in place modify it slightly.
