Here's something for thought, What about a way for swashbucklers being able to use a shield as an aggressive weapon? Duel wielding a weapon and shield while getting off-hand strikes with the shield as a blunt weapon, perhaps give them shield block as well.

Shield Bash? I'm afraid the concept of a Swashie is more of a Fencer / Pirate. So a shield would be completely out of place. I say give them bombs!

Swashbucklers are sophisticated, witty, lightly-armed and -armored
fighters who are usually found in the cities. They are the only profession
that can truly handle the complexity of wielding two weapons at the same
time. Experienced swashbucklers are so agile that they can even find ways
of using an enemy's strikes to their own advantage. The dual weapon style
does have its down side though, especially the inability to use a shield
effectively.

The name may suggest piracy but the help file does not.

SK focuses on the defensive side of shields and does not acknowledge the offensive use of a shield. Perhaps a special "Dueling shield" can be made for such a use.

I'm afraid the help file doomed your idea, the last sentence of it. But any aggressive use with the shield would fall to Mercenaries and Barbarians, or even Paladins and Hellions, before a Swashbuckler would even be considered. The biggest problem with the class is it doesn't fill a needed role effectively. If anything they'd be considered more a support class than anything else and only for the use of Taunt, otherwise any other class would be more helpful in their place.

Dulrik just needs to decide if the class is going to be a Damage dealer or a Tank, and than work from there, or just a roll a Mercenary / Barbarian and enjoy both worlds.

You have a good point. It is up to Dulrik to point where he wants the class to go. Until then, pretty much anything can be said about it.
