Perhaps you should re-read the thread. Dulrik had implied his aim was to bring more players into the game. New players aren't exactly going to care if there's a few more NPCs in a cabal defense. Instead, they're going to go, "Hey, wow! I can play a minotaur".

They are going to go, "Hey, wtf race is aberrant?" enter aberrant "They have deep-elves but not elves? That's stupid." They won't know anything about cabals or tribunals until they read the forums and decide that it is too much hassle to even try one.

I'm going to agree that alignment before race is a bit of trouble for new players.

Perhaps if you could go back for the first few portals, but if you're gonna do that, you might as well put it back the way it was, race, then alignment.

Just a note to say that the help files for race and class have been updated with alignment restrictions. This was suggested in another thread.

of course question is, will a new player read the help file of the race he wants to play -before- he makes his alignment choice?

I would suggest setting up alignment helpfiles to list which races each alignment allows as well.

I really don't see why people are crying so hard about the order of the character creation hall. If someone wants to play an abberant or diabolic character, they obviously don't want to play a griffon, as an example. Alignment determines a whole helluva lot more about the character than race does.

Nobody is crying hard.
