I think the whole jail system is more of an OOC punishment than anything in its format.

To combat this, people use an OOC view on it, and adjust their behaviour accordingly.

Is it weaksauce? Yes. Will it change? No.

Attacking your own law NPCs or judges will be cause for punishment. Either ICly or OOCly, but its not allowed. Period.

D-A I think you've cried enough to make a new ocean.

You should not under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES be killing people who are in jail, unless you're pardoning them after doing it. Which I somehow doubt you are doing.

Maybe if you guys didn't depend on guard NPCs to do everything for you, this wouldn't even matter.

Seriously, if I was in jail, and had served like 20 days already and then someone came in and killed me, I think that'd convince me to finally whine directly to an Imm.

Also, I just remembered something. ROFL. Peso, didn't you try to get me in trouble with the Zhenshi KD for getting you outlawed in Nerina, WHEN WE WERE AT WAR? And now you want to complain about other people trying to avoid being outlawed by any and all means possible? Will you please take this BS elsewhere.

This idiocy with "attempting to kill a tribunal member isn't illegal" thing needs to go, ASAP.

QFT.

AFAIK, this policy was made to stop tribunal members from attacking people, and then banishing them for defending themselves. But that got solved by the OOC restrictions on banishment. I don't see why another extremely OOC policy is necessary.

Is the worry that this hinders wars too much? Keep in mind that pardons are a regular part of truce terms.

Is the concern that assault/attempted murder charges can stack up too much? Then it's better to address this long-standing problem with the legal code. I could easily see a limit per target, or per IC day.

As I ACCIDENTALLY discovered, there is a very easy way to get around this.

What if I am a northerner and a taslamaran gets put into jail in the empire. Its perfectly fine then to break into the jail and kill them, yes? You only mention killing your own kingdoms NPCs.

Syn it's not black and white. If you want to serve your sentence you surrender and you tell none anything, so none knows you have been arrested. If you surrender and next second you send a tell to mock the leader telling him "Lalala, I just surrendered to clear my record and kill you, *laughts at you*", then I find what peso did rewardable for anyone but lighty characters. On the other hand, I find it lame to kill someone who did nothing like this, he's in jail to serve a really big sentence and you kill him the last day of his sentence. But such cases are rare and you don't need to change the code for them. An email of the log to a couple of imms should be more than enough.

Use says, yells and emotes, of course. Then when you get food and water, you can either eat or drink, drop them and possibly junk them. With tell, that is 10 possible things to do in jail!
