Thread necro.

Okay, warlocks -really- need something. There has been a lot of tweaking over the years but it seems that they got left behind.

Code:
c earth
You start to concentrate.

{HP:100%} {ME: 98%} {PE:100%}
>

You utter the words, 'zabrahpdjatz'.
The earth trembles beneath your feet!
You are rocked by your own quake.
You escape the effects of the earthquake you caused.

The only spell that seems to be doing anything is chain lightning but the uses of this spell are too limited. I haven't had the chance to test magma yet.

ps some of the helpfiles might be needing to be looked at.

help lightning bolt wrote:
This ability works like shocking grasp, however it allows the warlock to
send out an attack in the form of a lightning bolt. Utilizing this
charge, the warlock need only point at her victim to send the electricity
coursing through his body, inflicting damage. This is also useful to
hold distant enemies at bay.

Does this even work?

Also, I like the addition to shocking grasp it gives -some- tactical advantage but I'd not consider it enough for what warlocks need. They need to be elementalists not magma sprayers.

It's been said again but given that I play one I find them relatively lacking compared to other classes.

I think warlocks would be fine if elementals weren't so easy to dispel. I wouldn't object to giving them identify, too.

The buffs to stone skin and the ability to have a pet and an elemental were good changes that made warlocks pretty survivable. Against certain types of opponents, they're very deadly, and in group combat, they have the best healing spell in the game.

I think you could probably give some offensive buff to warlocks that wouldn't OP them, but I don't consider them so weak that they would desperately need it. Making elementals harder to dispel, or tying the save to the warlock's enchants, would probably be enough for me.

I think the swashbuckler class needs a buff, and I think charm person needs to be changed. And the elemental thing should definitely happen. Other than those three things, I actually consider the classes pretty well balanced atm. Unless I'm forgetting something.

Earthquake may be laughable, but the rest of the warlock's skill set is just fine.

I wouldn't object to making it harder to get resist elements, either. The main thing that makes warlocks unappealing to me is how easily their damage is nerfed by anybody with access to RE. I haven't done a huge amount of testing with this, though. I know RE does a lot to mitigate the damage from magma spray, but I'm not sure how much of a difference it makes against the rest of the warlock spellset.

What if there were a way to split resist elements to only offer protection against a group of two elements at a time. Then you'd have protection against lower elements (or something) which would include fire and earth and upper (or something) elements which would include air and water. Not sure how exactly to accomplish this, maybe split the spell into two or have the caster choose which elements to ward against when casting. It would basically work the same way it does now, except that it would only work against one group of elements.

Just throwing that out there.

RE doesn't lower damage from the other warlocks spells even as close to the same as it does from magma spray.

That.. I cannot say.

What I can say is that my idea is pure brilliance.
