Enhanced toughness (bonus from fury) that equals good grade mithril or adding in the heavy armor bonus to toughness.

Personally I think enhanced dodge would be a much more interesting choice. It would make them "avoidance" tanks rather than just buffing their toughness to bring them to near adamantite protection levels again. The light armor + enhanced dodge would give them some flair, also I've heard rumors that the enhanced dodge code is already in the game so it would just need to be tweaked and turned on. So to speak.

Barbarians shouldn't be tanks at all. Last a saw, berserkering savages have little regard for their own well being, let alone those around them.

Conan takes quite a beating before going down, and dodges a hell of a lot of attacks. Just sayin'.

Now that we're in the repeat ourselves and ask for imm action stage of the thread, guess I'll chip in again (succinctly!):

I think that barbarians are in really good shape already and the difference between high end mithril or high end scale/magical vestments and adamantite is not big enough to warrant the class receiving the "enhanced dodge" skill you're talking about. And I still think as already argued, that if this is just a flavor change to make leather=addy for Barbs with a passive AC skill that doesn't overpower them by adding a new avoidance passive, it's not worth the time. Leather's/Scale is already an option if someone's RP takes them that route. No reason a barb couldn't succeed as is in a good set of light armor.

First of all. We're basing the idea that light armor is the same AC as heavy armor on the fact that Ardith says so? While he usually has good insight in how the game works, the point is largely irrelevant to who-ever ends up actually considering this decision. What I mean is that that person obviously has information about the protection of different armor types that we don't have available to us so whoever that is, they can make an educated decision in that regard to a much higher extent than us.

Also, I don't think anyone is advocating that the toughness and the dodge skills of barbarians should be buffed, both were just suggestions of tweaks barbs could get when and if their armor allowance was reduced. Personally, I think the dodge idea is much more interesting because it would make them somewhat difference in their style of tanking, instead of just picking up the lost AC somewhere else.

I think that a passive damage reduction would be better than barbarians getting an enhanced dodge. I always pictured barbs more as being able to take more of a beating, not being able to dodge more.

I've just always thought this was essentially what the heal you get when you berserk/fury is supposed to mimic. I mean, it's not like doing it closes their wounds I guess? So it's some sort of toughness/shrugging off the damage in itself I suppose.
