I've quit this game (and ultimately came back) time and time again. I quit because the amount of PK and time wasted trying to PK was too much for me to handle, but I came back because I loved the RP part of the game, then I quit again because PK was too much, etc. etc. The one character that I avoided PK with 100% was Shirotaka, but I was playing Draykeios at the same time. When the PK on Draykeios got to where I couldn't handle it, the RP that I had going with Shirotaka wasn't enough for me to keep playing. I deleted a perfectly good character that had never been involved in PK because the PK of my main character was just so frustrating, but I came back, and probably always will.

Let's be honest: The PK system in SK isn't that hot. It is serviceable. The RP and the characters is why people stay so I would think something that facilitates RP and makes it more accessible to new players is good. We want new players, right?

This is hilarious. Have you ever played another MUD? Combat code in other MUDs is god awful. PK on SK is way more interesting than any other MUD. Sure, it's not [REDACTED] Call of Duty or WoW or whatever. But, come on. The RP on SK is better than anything you're going to find outside of a MUSH. Unless you're just looking for idle chat in the Inn and then mudsex RP. If so, please go play New Worlds Ateraan.

PK is part of the RP. If you don't want to PK, you shouldn't have RPd joining a Tribunal. And you shouldn't help people when they go into PK. Guess what. You'll get left alone.

I have yet to see an argument for why the current system stops anyone from congregating to the Inn and helping newbies.

I will point out again the /numerous/ complaints from different players I've had about how the lighties are mean to lowbies and people (like Ciadel specifically) are never available for simple things like a gate to help someone.

Hell. I've taught and RPd with lowbies in Sith'a'niel with Keleza.

It's impossible for players that are not avid PKers to be able to hang out in the inns and mentor newbies without a decent chance of getting ganked. It's difficult even for those that are avid PKers, unless of course there are no enemies capable of killing them online at the time.

I see absolutely no problem with this being rectified by making cities more than the complete joke that they currently are in the realm of how their defense works (IE: Not at all).

I just go into mentoring with a suspicion that someone is going to gank me. This keeps me on my toes.

I was lurking and this is a heated subject, I had to toss in my two cents.

First off SK is unique in it's RP and it's PK, it is unlike any other mud/game out there. That is what makes it attractive and unique and fun.

Now it's like any other game, the people who live it, eat it, breath it, sleep it, deficate it, are going to dominate. They are the masters of PK, they know the game inside and out. They are like the lifers in prison, they set the rules. This is the basic problem with the game, they dominate whatever they touch.

Now, for those who don't live the game, it is a small thing to ask to have some semblance of saftey in order to fullfill that which makes the game fun for them. Tougher cities are not going to stop gank squads, the lifers will figure out how to get around them and still gank people.

It would be more fun if more people's needs were met. You are going to have people who abuse it like anything else, but the inability to get anyone to come to an inn to help you as a newbie kind of defeats the original purpose for putting in that system.

It's selfish to sit on either side of the table and say meet my needs and only my needs.

I think Pilnor got wrecked every time he came to the North.

I think Antiira got wrecked every time he came to Sith'a'niel when I had my elf. Despite being able to gate in.

What were we talking about, again?

Sure, if somebody is a complete newbie, they're going to die.

That doesn't mean we need to make cities impossible to raid. Which is what this suggestion is all about. By the time you finished killing the group of super NPCs at the gate to the city, all the PCs would have scattered, and then they'd be continuing their "omg, I'm such a badass" RP and ignoring the fact that you're killing hundred and hundreds of NPCs while they hide.

It's already hard to attack cities that keep coin in their account.

So, again. HTFU.

It's pretty [REDACTED] RP to not go teach a newbie because there's a small chance an attack might happen while you happen to be doing that.
