Bards are super useful but really squishy. The add a great deal of utility but go splay very easily and are the first target of anyone good at pk.

Bards have a few tricks to save their butts: Tumble, Disguise (more importantly, removing disguise), they should generally have more buffs than anybody else at any given time, and, to an extent, they can use etheralform scrolls, but it requires them to stop singing. I think bards have a good survivability mechanic. Not because their survivability is high, but because you have to work for it.

They have a few tricks I agree, but in general they get stomped.

With the new set up to the way the game runs, solo PK with a bard is difficult. You need to be third row or you get eaten up with reach weapons, your pets often times can out survive you in a fight, and the chords could use some adjusting.

I never understood why we could direct c major, f minor was a room attack, and at the pinacle of chords we could not project our voices a room away or at a group without smashing our own group. The lag created by using a chord more than offsets using it as a ranged attack like fireball or chain lightning. It would also give the bard more utility and a choice to be a singer or ranged damage. Might require some adjustment to damage for balance but overall I think it would be a usefull improvement.

Many of a bards songs and chords wind up being useless, just because of the way they are designed and can be used.

Yeah, I never understood why bash, an amateur skill, is useful for the entire life of the char and most songs stop being useful after you leave that rank. F-minor is only good to level with if the NPCs can't hurt you. Otherwise, it is worthless. I wouldn't mind if it did less damage if it didn't hit the party or if it didn't hit the party if you are dancing.

Also, if there are others around, persuade is still considered a crime right? If you charm/dominate a npc/pc in front of others is it considered a crime also?

Guys, I don't know how to say this kindly, so I'll just put it out there. You aren't qualified to have opinions on game play. Please stop.

Actually, when it comes to bards, I do know about them very well. So, since you don't know that, I will say this very kindly, you aren't qualified to have opinions on game play, please stop.

Outside of the fact that a good bit of what you've said about bards is flat out incorrect...

Muktar man, just cause you've played a bard doesn't mean you played one that was successful in PvP.

I'm going to have to ask people to stop this trend of saying 'You aren't qualified to comment.' This board is open to all players of the game and everyone is equally invited to comment. If you don't agree with a comment, you are free to say so and explain why, or ignore entirely the comment with which you disagree.

Muktar and spidermonkey may have thick skins and can take it, but the elitist attitude just drives away new people from the game who happen to read some threads and decide not to waste their time playing in such a hostile environment.

It's not as if calm, logical responses will change anything. Someone could break down the bard class - or say something as simple as hey, look at these handful of awesome bards - and the response would be "MY BARD WANNST THAT GUD ITS NOT FARE!!!"

These aren't new faces asking innocent questions; those do tend to get more measured, inclusive replies. Including those who spew [REDACTED] over everything consistently over a long period of time need to be excluded, and expecting others to take time out of their days to correct them to no effect is like inviting five year olds to the adults table. It just takes away from what could otherwise be pleasant discussion.

I have the impression that you've never paid as much to the conclusions drawn by the playerbase on these threads and instead use Gameplay as a sort of idea bank, that you ultimately make most of your choices based on your own vision. So that's cool. No accusation from me that you're dumb enough to get sucked in to answering to your players. But there's value in calling out rampant stupidity.

And I gave you a solution to that -- don't bother to reply.
