I recalled because the rank in front of my character fled and I didn't want to get bashed and die. The initial magma spray did approximately 30% because I failed the save and took full damage.
Over the next two ticks, my character took an additional 20% or so from the DoT (cling) effect. So, no, my character wouldn't have died from the magma spray. The spell is perfectly fine. Yes, it is dangerous now. However, there are still plenty of ways to mitigate or avoid the damage that are available to almost every class.
Dirt kick, blindness, color spray, mirror image, feeblemind, fear, sanctuary, resist elements, Hammer cabal spell, Harlequin cabal spell, etc., ad naseum. Nearly every class has a way to disable a warlock and prevent the spell from being cast. And if the warlock does manage to successfully cast magma, there are still ways to reduce the damage.
