Oh. They shouldn't be requesting the key to jail. That's weaksauce.

i do believe that judges were tweaked to refuse requests of their keys.

I'm sure that turning yourself in to serve a sentence for a crime is completely valid and not against any rules. It may be bad roleplay in how it is handled, but provided its the slightest bit IC, there's nothing wrong with it. That's not my gut feeling, but for fairness reasons, that's how it is.

Will you make up your mind? Seriously.

Bad roleplay and fine roleplay are two different things.

And if you take Alshain's response to Jardek, bad RP is punishable. And the 2 first options with the 3rd and 4th options in the poll are two totally different things.

I'm confused on how the immstaff feels about that tactic now. :-?

Two keys aren't on judges, now are they?

Having just read this whole stupid 10 page thread, I'm going to try bringing it back where it started. I saw a suggestion about losing XP instead of doing jail time, but that was shot down because it would be too powerful. I also saw something about suiciding out of jail. What if suiciding in jail got your sentence nullified by caused a major loss of XP? This way it would completely be the jailed person's decision on whether or not to lose the XP. Just randomly throwing this out as an idea. Although using suicide as an example leaves a particularly bad taste right now...

I for one do like the idea. Think about it; instead of sentencing a PC to idle before his monitor, he can choose to suicide and need to spend time grinding to regain his XP instead. It sounds like a very good alternative to me.

Oh come on, who'd ever use that option?

If you have 100 days in jail, someone'll break you out eventually. There's no way that any experience penalty (Unless it was 1 or 2 ticks) would be worth taking instead.

Considering how easily GM paladins reincarnate and call armor to save their lewt, even a level loss isn't that harsh if you have 60+ days in jail.

Dulrik has taken the time to read this thread as he said, made a comment but still hasn't said what he thinks of this tactic. Is it fine RP? Bad RP? Lame RP? Cursable RP? Or just a 1337 way to work around the law system's mechanics.

I like D's idea. Anything to get people out of jail quicker. I know that I would use it instead of waiting for someone to break me out.

I'm afraid I have to agree with D-A, here. If a tribunal finally locks up someone with a 60+ day sentence, the criminal should serve it, be busted out, or be pardoned.

Tribunal leaders can easily support positive contributors to the game. If both sides OOCly want the jail sentence to be shorter, it's not that hard to work out. This can be attributed to an IC cause. Or time the character spends in jail can be credited even without player control.

If that doesn't happen, and there's no allies for an eventual jailbreak - maybe a PK nuisance character is out of commission. That's cause for celebration, not a code change.

Besides, how on earth does it make sense to lose XP for a successful jailbreak? Or that one's location makes any difference in death XP loss?
